***It's late afternoon. As always at this time in Joe's things are still a little slow as most folk are still working, students still in college and the like.*** Claire has heard this place needs help, and so looking up the address she found it was not far from home. If you can call where she stays a home. An abandoned construction site is hardly that, and she manages to avoid being spotted the few times someone has shown up there. Seeing the place open, but not too busy she enters and makes her way toward the bar, where she hopes to find the owner or manager, or someone who can help her.
Roux steps out of Joe's office, a glass of juice in hand. She moves hesitantly, as though unsure of her surroundings. As it is the young woman is simply apprehensive about meeting new people. The innate fight or flight response asserting itself in any type of situation with this one. Usually "flight" wins out, but with there being so few people in the bar she moves forward slowly, her brown-eyed gaze flicking to each newcomer to ensure they aren’t going to come over. When Claire does, Roux halts dead in her tracks.
Claire isn’t exactly shy; she can’t be after all those years of performing on stage. Raising a hand she waves down the woman. “Excuse me! Yes, hi. I'm here about the job?”
Roux tries walking forward again, hoping she will be ignored or better yet, become invisible so that no one can see her. Her attitude is utterly different to what it had been before the renegades, but no one knows that and so it could be forgiven if people think she is shy or, from the response she gives Claire, a bit stupid. "Job?"
Claire nods, holding up a scrap of paper. “Yeah, they said you needed a bar tender.. right?”
Roux frowns, reaching out to take the paper but pulling back at the last second. "T-they?"
Claire nods again noticing the woman’s strange behavior. OCD? She wonders. “Yeah, a couple of the students at the college...”
Roux nods, before reaching out and snatching the paper as if afraid Claire would do something should she get too close. "Oh," it’s hard to tell from her one word answers that Roux is French. With Joe's help she’s starting to speak English more and integrating those words into conversation.
Claire 's brow furrowed as she stared at the one word woman. “Are you alright, Miss?”
Roux nods quickly to try and ensure some normalcy. People would tend to nod at such a question, after all, they wouldn't admit to a stranger if something is wrong. "Yes," she studies the paper and notes that it does, in fact, state that the bar is looking for workers. "Umm... ID?"
Claire smiles and reaches into her pocket producing her ID and holding it out in an open upturned hand to the strange woman.
Roux looks at it, but really isn’t in any position to check to see if it is fake or not, or even to hire Claire in the first place. But that isn’t going to stop young Roux. She grabs the nearest cloth and puts it on the table in front of Claire. "Okay. B-bar needs cleaning."
Claire smiles brightly and grabs up the cloth, and her superb fake ID. “Thank you so much! You wont be sorry.”
Roux frowns again. "Why?" she pauses and starts again. "Why would I be s-sorry?" she questions. Despite the fact that a snail has more conversation skills than she does, the woman appears starved of any conversation. She needs more contact with people, yet fears it at the same time.
Claire glances at her curiously. “Well, I'm a hard worker, and I learn real fast.” Claire holds out her hand in greeting, “I'm Claire, Claire Constantine.”
Roux looks at Claire's hand as if it’s some completely foreign object. Instead of taking it, she gives a half-hearted wave. "Roux, is my name."[Claire] Oh! You’re French? That’s great, I speak French.. I could help you with your English if you like? Roux takes a step back, more than a little startled at the other girls exuberance. "Okay." She hasn’t gotten the hang of refusing things at this point, having become so used to being made to cooperate.
Claire smiles at the woman. “It’s alright, I don't bite. So what is it you do here? Are you the manager?
Her eyes widen at the mere thought, "No," she hastily replies.[Claire] Oh…well. Are you another bar tender, or the owner or a cleaning lady or what? Claire’s speech is likely to get faster, but as she speaks faster she begins to speak French so the woman can keep up.
Roux eases into the conversation at bit better as the conversation moves into her native tongue. It does make it easier to keep up, too, and she seems to relax her a little. "Joe's friend," though it is said with uncertainty. He had helped her when the renegades had tossed her away, and that was enough for him to gain her trust.[Claire] Joe? That’s the guy who owns this place right? Is he cool? I have heard he plays guitar really well. Do you play too? Roux nods and shakes her head where appropriate, it’s probably the fastest conversation she’s had yet. To her, it’s a little intimidating but in an attempt at acting normal, she remains frozen on the spot.
Claire stares at her a moment falling silent as she does so. A slow breath and she speaks once more. “Uhm, would it be possible to get an advance on my first weeks pay?” Claire looks a little guilty about asking, but she wouldn't ask if she doesn’t need it desperately.
Again a frown appears and she shrugs helplessly before studying the ground, completely unsure how to respond. She does so eventually, "I don't-I don't know."[Claire] Oh, well…if its trouble don't worry about it…I’ll be alright.. Claire glances around then back to Roux. “So when do the crowd usually roll in?” She eventually stops questioning the woman and even heads home to the abandoned warehouse.

LabAssist , along with another lab assistant, go into CJ's room. She is sleeping since they have had her downstairs in "treatment" for the past several days. He walks up to her cot and reaches down and shakes her shoulder.
[LabAssist] Come on. Time to rise and shine.
CARA reaches up and grabs the big brute's wrist, slips her hand down so that her palm is against his and proceeds to bend his wrist back to where his fingernails are touching the top of his arm and she gets out of bed.
LabAssist drops to his knees and lets out a yell as pain shoots up his arm.
CARA brings her knee up and slams it into the guy's face, then grabs a handful of hair on the back of his head and slams his face into the metal rail at the head of her cot, 3 times.
LabAssist 's partner is taken by surprise at the little female's speed but manages to get hold of her by the waist and pull her off of his partner.
LabAssist slowly gets to his feet and grabs a towel that is hanging from the bar at the head of her cot and holds it against his broken nose. He walks up to his partner who is holding the struggling girl and backhands her across the face.
[LabAssist] Take her down to Sherring. I'm going to the infirmary.
LabAssist 's partner drags CJ, kicking and shouting obscenities out of the room, down the hall and into the elevator.
Sherring is waiting patiently for the two to bring CJ to him, he sits at a computer desk, typing away furiously as if worried he'll forget what he wants to do.
LabAssist 's partner drags CJ into a familiar room in the sub-basement of the castle and chains her to a thick cement pillar in the center of the room. He wraps another chain around her waist two times and locks it...just in case.
CARA glares at the brute who has chained her up. Then she sees Sherring for the first time since her re-capture. She begins to laugh heartily.
Sherring pushes his glasses further up on his nose and leans back in the chair, and swivels around to regard CJ with a bland expression.
CARA continues laughing.
[Sherring] It is good that you find your circumstances so amusing.
Sherring says, though he has the idea that she's laughing at him.
[CARA] It's not my circumstances that's so funny. It's you with no ears.
CARA says through her laughter.
[CARA] Just think how you'll look with no nose or....better yet...no balls?
[CARA] Because that's what will happen to you no matter what you do to me.
Sherring stands, and advances slowly, his arms clasped behind his back. "There is something that I find amusing, too."
[CARA] How can you find anything amusing when you have no sense of humor. Or personality for that matter.
[CARA] You're nothing but an earless piece of maggot shit.
Sherring ignores her and carries on speaking. "The thing that I find amusing is... you think you will be rescued."
[CARA] I didn't say anything about being rescued. I said no matter what you do to me.
Sherring withdraws a scalpel from his pocket and advances again. "I do recall you had a high pain threshold," he remarked conversationally.
CARA shrinks back against the pole.
CARA squirms against her chains.
Sherring appears very smug at her reaction, "Oh. Was I wrong? Or are you just a very good actress?" he queries.
[CARA] Why don't you just get to it? You old fool.
CARA braces herself for the pain she knows she's about to endure.
Sherring advances toward CJ.
HORTON enters the room along with the Lab Assistant.
[HORTON] Sherring, Stop.
HORTON commands.
Sherring freezes in place.
CARA looks up at the sound of the command and grimaces when she sees Horton and the condition that he's in, but she quickly hides her repulsion.
[HORTON] Just what do you think you're doing, Sherring?
[Sherring] I was just having a little fun, Mr. Horton. I felt I owed it to her...or rather she owed it to me after what she and her friends did to me.
[HORTON] Put your glasses on you freak and look at me and tell me about what she and her friends did to someone. I don't want her damaged. She's too perfect a subject.
[Sherring] Just doing some more testing that's all.
[HORTON] All I want you to do with her is to start her injections.
[CARA] You're not injecting me with anything, you piece of shit.
CARA yells.
[Sherring] I was waiting for my assistant to bring me something to sedate her with. Once she is out of those chains she's to wild to find a vein to give her the injection.
Sherring lies.
HORTON looks at the Lab Assistant and asks, "did you get the sedative?"
LabAssist to cover for the doctor who he is more afraid of than Horton he lies and says, "they didn't have anymore."
[Sherring] What do you mean they didn't have anymore?
Sherring looks at Horton and asks, "so now what am I suppose to do.?"
[HORTON] You figure it out. That's you're department. That's why i hired you. If I have to do your thinking for you then there's no need for you to even be here. Would you like to be terminated Dr. Sherring? Hmmm?
HORTON asks with an evil quality in his voice.
[Sherring] And who'd administer your precious drug then? You?
Sherring chuckles.
HORTON drives his wheelchair up close to Sherring and reaches up with his good hand and grabs the doctor by his collar and pulls him down to within inches of his deformed face.
[HORTON] Are you absolutely sure you want to push this issue, doctor?
Sherring hesitates only for a couple of seconds then says, "No."
HORTON pushes him backwards and drives his wheelchair up to CJ. He motions for the assistant to join him.
[HORTON] Hello, my dear. So nice to see you again.
HORTON says, his voice sickeningly sweet.
[CARA] You should be dead.
CARA hisses.
[HORTON] Yes....I suppose I should. But guess what? I'm not.
HORTON says in a sing songy voice.
[CARA] It doesn't matter what you do to me. You're through. Your whole operation is through. Everyone will soon know about you and you will be taken down. Even as we speak a sample of your drug is being analyzed and an antidote will be made.
[HORTON] Oh my. That's quite an impressive speech my dear. Of course, it won't happen. You see I got my sample back before it ever left Germany.
CARA looks at him dubiously
[CARA] Yeah. Right. And I'm suppose to believe that? Give me a break, ass wipe. I wouldn't believe a word you had to say. You're maggot shit and nothing more.
HORTON clucks his tongue.
[HORTON] Such language for a lady. I thought you might not believe me so I brought proof.
LabAssist having spoken to Horton in the hallway, knows what he wants and steps forward and produces a tray from behind his back. He holds it close to CJ so that she can get a good look at what's on it.
CARA looks down at the tray and her mouth opens slightly and she takes in a quick breath...almost a gasp.
[HORTON] Recognize anything?
CARA is looking at Duncan's wedding ring and his favorite Celtic hair tie with several strands of his hair still tangled in it. She turns her gaze to Horton.
[HORTON] Ahhhh.....she does recognize it.
[CARA] No. No way.
HORTON begins to chuckle softly.
[CARA] No....It's not true.
[HORTON] Would you like to see the head, my dear? It's upstairs but he could run up and get it for you?
HORTON says and gestures at the assistant.
LabAssist grimaces at the thought of having to bring a head from someone's body all the way down here.
CARA looks from Horton to the Assistant and back to Horton again. She lunges at him only to be stopped by her chains.
[CARA] You're lying.
[HORTON] Am I?
HORTON reaches up with his good hand and removes the wedding ring from the tray and holds it up so that he can see the inscription. He shows it to the assistant and tells him, "hold this so that she can read it."
LabAssist does as he's told.
CARA reads the inscription on the inside of the wedding band. "July 6, 2005 Forever as one". Her eyes fill with tears. It was Duncan's wedding band. He had told her on their wedding night that he would never take it off. For it to be here could only mean one thing.
[CARA] NO!!!!
[CARA] NO!!!
[CARA] D U N C A N !!!!!
CARA screams and slumps down against the pillar as far as her chains will allow and sobs loudly.
[CARA] NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!
CARA calls out through her sobs.
HORTON backs his chair away from her and turns it to face Sherring. He has a satisfied smile on his face as he says very quietly, "Let her grieve and when she stops...I can guarantee you you will have no need of a sedative."
Sherring looks from Horton to CJ who is crumpled up against her chains and sobbing hysterically.
HORTON nods in confirmation and drives his wheelchair out of the room.
Sherring takes a seat at his computer and begins typing away while he waits.
LabAssist backs away from the girl and actually feels a bit sorry for her. He walks over to the wall by the door and leans against it and waits for further instructions.
CARA sobs until she has no voice left then cries silently until she can cry no more. She pictures Duncan's face the last time she saw him and she imagines his arms around her. But those images only make her feel worse. Finally after an hour of crying she is completely drained. She remains slumped down against her chains...completely defeated.
Sherring gets up from his chair and walks over to her and says quietly, "I can take away your pain, Cara. I can make you forget all about it. Would you like that? To not feel the pain you're feeling now?"
CARA says without looking at Sherring in a small weak voice that's barely audible, "I don't care. It doesn't matter. Nothing matters anymore. Oh God, Duncan." But she can only whimper as her tears are spent.
Sherring motions for the assistant and says, "get her up on the table and strap her down just in case." Then he walks over to the table and begins preparing the IV that will carry the drug that will wipe out her memories into her blood system.
LabAssist unlocks and unchains CJ. She melts into his arms and he picks her up and carries her to the table. He sets her down and restrains her legs, feet, arms and waist.
CARA stares blankly at the ceiling but doesn't see it.
Sherring finds a vein in her arm and starts the IV. Then he gives her a shot in her other arm of the same drug. As he does he says, "this will knock you out...help you sleep. And when you wake up you'll be a totally different person."
LabAssist puts a set of headphones on CJ's ears and turns on the reel to reel tape recorder. Then steps back.
Sherring nods satisfied. He says, "come on. Let's go celebrate," and turns and heads for the door.
LabAssist follows him. As he goes out the door he takes one last almost sad look at CJ laying on the treatment table then leaves.

Duncan goes into the guest bedroom in Wyn's house. He pulls out his cellphone and dials Lillith's number again.
Lillith hearing the phone as she walks up the path to her house hurries. Unlocking the door she tosses her briefcase on the side table and picks up the phone.
[Lillith] Hello?
[Duncan] Hi, Lillith, it's MacLeod.
[Lillith] Hello Duncan, how can I help you?
Lillith 's voice was calm as always as she answered.
[Duncan] I got back from Germany yesterday. I have the vial of the serum used to help reprogram Immortals. I need you to do an analysis on it and tell me what's in it.
[Lillith] Of course Duncan, bring it to my flat.
Lillith then gave him directions to her apartment and set up her kitchen while awaiting his arrival.
Duncan grabs a piece of paper and jots down the direction and hangs up. He gets into his car and takes off for Lillith's home. After a 15 minute drive he pulls up to her house and gets out of his car. He immediately feels the buzz of another Immortal. He heads up the walk way to the front door.
Lillith had the kitchen set up more like a lab then a kitchen by the time he arrived. A laptop computer on the dining table along with a microscope looking device among other things. The door of course opened before he arrived at it and she stepped aside to allow him to enter.
[Lillith] I have everything prepared Duncan, in the kitchen. Would you like anything to eat or drink while I analyze the sample?
Lillith was ever the proper English Lady and hostess as she lead him to the kitchen.
Duncan steps into her home and follows her into the kitchen. "I'll have some coffee if you have any made." He pulls off his coat and drapes it over a chair.
Lillith had coffee ready and waiting and poured him a cup setting it on the counter where she had set a stool for him to sit on the counter beside his coffee was cream and sugar.
[Lillith] I am sorry for your loss Duncan, but do not loose faith, there is still a chance to find her and save her.
Duncan still feels absolutely exhausted, even after sleeping through the night with the help of one of Delwyn's herbal remedies. Of course, the time he was awake all he did was worry about Cara and what horrible things she was going through. He is quite sure that his worry is showing on his face.
Lillith of course noticed it but said nothing more then the initial condolences
Duncan takes a seat on the stool and grabs the cup of coffee to take a sip. "I'm not. I just can't deal with the fact their torturing her."
[Lillith] The vial?
Lillith held her hand out for it
[Lillith] Then perhaps it would be better that you think of her as dead instead. There is no help in worrying.
Lillith did indeed often say strange things but it was never with an intention of causing pain.
Duncan gets up from his seat and goes to his coat. He pulls a box out of the pocket and hands it to Lillith. He made sure he had it secure and safe. He had stuffed the box with cloth to keep the vial from breaking. "I can't even comprehend that thought."
Lillith said nothing more as she took the box and set it on the table. Pulling latex gloves on she opened it and removed the vial. Retrieving a couple slides she set them down and then the vial beside them. opening the vial then she used a dropper to remove a small amount to place on the slide, then another drop into a small cylander and placed that into a small oven looking machine that rested on the table and was hooked to the computer.
[Lillith] Help yourself to anything in the fridge or cabinets Duncan, I am certain you have not eaten in a while.
[Duncan] I'm all right, but thanks.
Duncan didn't have much of an appetite, but Delwyn was making sure he ate. He takes another sip of coffee.
[Lillith] You don't look alright Duncan MacLeod, you look like death warmed over.
Lillith placed the slide under the microscope and peered through. She made an immediate discovery.
[Lillith] Interesting.
Duncan perks up a bit. "What is it?"
[Lillith] Kwanlo root and Sodium Pentathol
[Lillith] But it appears as if the two do not mix...
[Lillith] It needs some sort of catalyst to activate and get the result of brainwashing.
Lillith leaned back and thought.
Duncan watches her.
Lillith muttered under her breath as she thought back on all she had learned while her life as a chemist's assistant.
[Lillith] Serotonin! Its a vasoconstrictor, liberated by platelets. It inhibits gastric secretion which causes the body to break down chemicals and toxins more slowly, thus allowing it to stay in the system longer. It also stimulate smooth muscles, which explains the seizures. And it acts as a neurotransmitter. It is present in the body anyway, but high doses of it, I bet give activate the other two chemicals and allow brainwashing.
Lillith looked over her shoulder at him. "I can make an antidote... but you need to get Cara back as soon as possible and we need a test subject before we administer it to her."
Lillith stared at him awaiting some sort of reaction.
Duncan nods. "I'm working on trying to get her out. I can't go in there myself and get her. Horton would probably kill her if I personally tried." He thinks for a moment, "I don't know of any test subjects we can use. Horton's had only one success and I'm sure Horton has him under lock and key."
Lillith sighed and thought a moment. "It wont take me long to make a antidote. You get me all the info on where Cara and this other test subject are. And when the antidote is done Amanda and Nick and I will go get Cara and this other you speak of.
Duncan takes a deep breath, feeling a bit better that an antidote can be made. "Cara is in Otterburg, Germany. It's 20 miles from Hamburg. Horton is holding her in the old castle in Otterburg."
Lillith nodded "Now find out everything you can about the place. security, guards. And find everything you can on this other test subject as well. And let Amanda and Nick know I will need their help."
[Duncan] Amanda went in with Cara. She knows the security systems.
Duncan sighs. "I don't know if I can get anymore info on the successful test subject. I'll have to talk to Nick about that."
[Lillith] Alright, now what can you tell me about the other test subject?
[Duncan] I can't tell you anything about the person. Nick interrogated a woman who had worked for Horton. That's how we knew he had succeeded in a reprogramming. I don't know even know if the subject is male or female.
Lillith nodded and turned back to stare at th read out that was appearing on her computer screen.
[Lillith] Are you scared Duncan?
Duncan puts his cup down. "If you're asking me if I'm scared I'm going to lose her, the answer is yes. Whether it's death or her forgetting everything.
[Duncan] But, I will put up a fight to get her back at any cost.
[Lillith] You seemed so much stronger when you were independent
Lillith made the offhanded comment without looking at him.
Duncan quirks a brow. "I only had myself to worry about. Now, I have my wife to worry about too."
[Lillith] Indeed Duncan. Love makes everything more complicated, frightening and makes us weak.
[Duncan] It can make us more vulnerable, yes, but the price is worth it.
[Lillith] Yes, I suppose so
Lillith stated in a whisper trying not to think on the past, but rather the moment at hand.
[Lillith] And what thanks shall I expect when this is all over Duncan?
Duncan can't help smile at that question. "Anything you'd like, within reason."
[Lillith] Within reason?
Lillith glanced over her shoulder at him.
[Duncan] Yeah, no outrageous requests.
[Lillith] I should hope that a request to join your little Immortal posse would be granted?
Duncan looks at her questioningly. "My Immortal posse?"
Lillith chuckled "Have you a team name you prefer to 'posse'?
Duncan shakes his head a bit. "What are you talking about? My ring of Immortal friends, you mean?"
Lillith laughed and nodded "Yes Duncan you and your friends. Though I would be a fifth wheel.. Perhaps I should seduce Joe, so I may be part of a couple too?
Lillith was teasing him now hoping to lighten his mood, but her face was still calm and serious.
Duncan laughs at that. "You were granted permission the moment you agreed to help me and Cara find out what exactly the serum is and helping to find an antidote."
Duncan smiles. "Besides, you'll have to take up seduction of Joe with Joe."
[Duncan] I'm sure he'd have a hard time saying no to you.
Lillith smiled seductively "Yes, mortal men cannot deny me."
Lillith said in a mocking seductive tone.
Duncan shakes his head again, chuckling. "Do that seriously and I know Joe won't be able to say no to you."
[Lillith] Ahh, well good, I am growing bored of being alone all the time. Not even a cat or dog or bird. I don't even have a gold fish for god's sake.
Duncan smiles. "I'm sure there's someone out there who'd like to cure your boredom."
Duncan has to admit, Lillith is doing a good job on getting his mind off of worrying about Cara, even for just a couple of minutes.
Lillith turned that mock seductive look on him "Is that an offer Highlander?
Duncan puts up his hands. "Ohh no...I have enough problems as it is."
Lillith could only keep her face straight for a moment and began to laugh seeing Duncan's expression change at the comment.
Duncan laughs with her.
Lillith sighed "Yes I'm a comedian.. Thank you, thank you, no autographs please. I'll be here all week."
Duncan chuckles and grabs his coat. "How long do you think it will take you to make the antidote?"
Lillith thought about it a moment "24 hours, maybe 48 at most."
Duncan nods. "All right. Call me when you have it. I'll try to get us a guinea pig and figure out a way to get Cara out of that hell hole."
Duncan puts his coat. He turns to face her. His voice very sincere, "Thank you for your help."
Lillith nodded "You're welcome Duncan."
Duncan makes his way to the front door.
[Lillith] Duncan!
Duncan stops and turns to look at Lillith.
Lillith grabbed something from a case on the table and tossed it to him. It was a little black box, and inside was a hypo-gun and two small vials. "For Cara and the other. It will temporarily relieve the effects of the drugs they have been given. but it'll only last 18 hours."
Duncan catches it and puts it in his coat pocket. "Thanks. I'll call you when I have some news on a rescue plan and the other test subject."
Duncan walks to the front door and opens it. He steps outside and walks to his car. He gets in and starts it. He then takes off in the direction he came.
Lillith meanwhile works on creating the antidote.

NICK is sitting in Joe's finishing his lunch.
JOE walks up to Nick and asks, "So can I get you anything else, Nick?"
NICK shakes his head and pushes his plate to the center of the table.[NICK] No, Joe. Thanks. I'm fine. JOE pulls out a chair and sits across from Nick.[JOE] No word yet on our girl? NICK shakes his head.[NICK] No. We just can't seem to come up with a plan that will work this time. NICK looks over at Joe.[NICK] It's driving us crazy. Amanda's a wreck and Mac....well...you can imagine. [JOE] Yeah. I know. I hope he can handle it. The last time I saw him he seemed to only be hanging on by a thread. D.Swift walks into front entrance, immediately hearing that buzzing sensation in his head. He starts looking around the bar, eyes falling on Nick Wolfe. He doesn't know him, but it's a public place. Safe enough. He slowly starts to edge into the bar.
NICK feels the buzz of another Immortal and looks up at the door.
JOE recognizes the look on Nick's face and looks at the newcomer.[JOE] Anyone you know? [NICK] Never seen him before. I just hope he's not looking for trouble. I'm really not in the mood. [JOE] I'll go check it out. JOE gets up and goes behind the bar and walks up to the newcomer.[JOE] What's your pleasure? D.Swift approaches the bar and smiles, keeping one eye sort of over his shoulder towards Nick. "Scotch, neat. Thanks. Nice place you got here, plenty of room."
JOE prepares the man's drink and sets it down in front of him.[JOE] Thanks. I'm Joe Dawson by the way. JOE extends his hand for the man to shake.
D.Swift shakes Dawson's hand firmly and smiles, "Name's Swift. Dragon Swift. Swift investigation agency. A client of mine said this place is great for jazz..." he turns around and leans against the bar, but keeps himself facing Joe as not to be rude. "Any truth to that?"[JOE] You new in town? [JOE] I'd like to think so. We are usually packed by 9:00. I try to highlight bands that need a start, you know? [JOE] So you have a PI agency? D.Swift shrugs, "Not really. Been here for a few years, but my business keeps me traveling a lot so I've been incommunicado. Yeah, I know what you mean." he chuckles, "Yeah. Not real big, but it's a good business." he keeps his eyes on Nick, still unsure of him.
JOE clears his throat and gives a little chuckle.[JOE] The man you keep watching? He owns the largest PI firm in Seacouver. Would you like to meet him? He's a friend of mine. JOE waves him to follow and walks around the end of the bar.
D.Swift smirks a bit at that, "You probably pull down more in a week than I do in a month." His face lights up, "He does? Sure. Always nice to meet guys in the business." And a perfect chance for him to feel this unknown out...[JOE] Come on over. I'll introduce you. JOE leads the way to Nick's table.
D.Swift follows Joe, careful not to seem threatening. He didn't come in here to start trouble.[JOE] Nick Wolfe? I'd like you to meet Dragon Swift. Seems he's a competitor of yours Nick. NICK looks up at Dragon and gets to his feet. He wipes the salt from the fries off his hands on his jeans and extends his hand to Dragon.[NICK] Nice to meet you. NICK gestures to a chair.[NICK] Have a seat. JOE smiles and says, "You want another beer now, Nick?"
NICK nods.[NICK] Thanks, Joe. [NICK] Have a seat Dragon. I won't bite. D.Swift shakes Nicks hand firmly, "Nice to meet you. I doubt I'm any competition to you..." he pulls up a chair and sits down. "So hows the business these days? I've been out of town a while."
NICK sits back in his chair and smiles at Dragon.[NICK] Not too bad. Actually my firm deals more with security than private dick work. We sell systems to major commercial businesses and provide agents for VIPs from time to time. Duncan pulls into a parking spot and gets out of the car. He walks to the door of the bar and pauses a few seconds as the buzz fills. He pushes the door open and walks in.[NICK] I have the office here and one in New York City and one in San Fransisco. NICK looks up as he feels an Immortal Buzz.
NICK sees Duncan and waves him over.
D.Swift nods "A lot of money in that. I'm a solo operation, so I don't have the manpower to do it. I wish I did, a good market." He suddenly looks up as he feels the buzz and settles on Mac, a wide grin forming on his face, "Well I'll be damned..."[NICK] You know each other? JOE sees Mac walk in and waves to him and smiles broadly.
D.Swift 's grin widens even more, "Yeah, we're pals from, umm...the old days. If you catch my drift." He turns in his chair to face MacLeod at the door.
Duncan sees Nick and sees a very familiar face at the table. He walks over. He wasn't looking so good due to worrying about his wife.
Duncan gives Joe a wave. "What are you doing here?" His question meant for Dragon. "It's been how long since I've seen you?"
NICK looks up at MacLeod and says, "Hey, Mac. Join us."
D.Swift gets up to shake MacLeod's hand, "I'm back in town. I heard you were living here, but my business has kept me moving. Haven't had a chance to find you." he chuckles, "Oh...give or take 60 years..." he says in a quieter voice, since he doesn't know Joe knows about immortals, "World War II."
JOE can tell that his friend is in a bad way and his heart goes out to him. He pours him a glass of Scotch and takes it over to him. As he sets it on the table he puts his hand on Duncan's shoulder and says, "Hang in there buddy. We're all pulling for you."
Duncan nods. "Seems like it's been longer than that." He pulls his coat off and takes a seat.
Duncan looks up at Joe and gives him a faint smile. "Thanks." He picks up the glass and takes a sip.[D.Swift] Wait a second...hang in there??? What's going on, Mac? You all right, you need some help? JOE leaves the group to talk and goes back behind the bar.
NICK decides to let Mac tell Dragon what he wants him to know so he drinks his beer in silence.
Duncan looks at Dragon. "It's a long story, but my wife is in Germany." He takes a sip of Scotch. "Someone beyond deranged has her and I can't go in there and get her." He clenched his teeth feeling the sadness fill him again.
D.Swift sighs and looks down into his drink, swirling it around. "Damn them. Bastard. Is there anything I can do? Anything at all?" He didn't know MacLeod had got married. That detail was left out when he heard Duncan was here. "Anything at all, it's yours. You know that."
Duncan nods his head. "Thanks, I may take you up on it." He looks at Nick. "Have you thought of any other plans?"
D.Swift nods, "You got it." Protective of his friends, Swift is at a loss. If he learns more, maybe he can help. And he will, if he can. He leans back, deciding to listen to learn what's up.
NICK shakes his head sadly.
A young man walks into the bar and straight up to Joe. He is carrying a box. He speaks to Joe for a second and the two men disappear into Joe's office. The young man walks out of Joe's office and heads for the door. He slows slightly as his eyes fall on Duncan and he gets a sad look on his face, and shakes his head as he hurries out of the bar.
Duncan sighs. He sits back in his chair and finishes the Scotch in his glass. He places the glass back on the table. He looks back to Dragon. "So, how long have you lived here? I had no idea you were in the area."
D.Swift sighs, "Look. I'm not one to make others affairs my business, Mac...but you're my friend. Tell me details....if you can. I know it's hard. But I'll be damned if I just stand by..." e sighs, "Sorry. I've been here since 98, but I've been on the move since about 3 months ago due to business.
JOE looks back in the box at its contents and drops into his desk chair. He covers his face with his hand and fights back the emotion that is filling him. “Oh God,” he says aloud to the empty office. “How do I tell him this?”
NICK looks at Duncan.
Duncan nods. "It's a long story, my friend. And I don't know if I can bare telling it right now."[NICK] Maybe a fresh look at things might help, Mac. It couldn't hurt. JOE finally gets to his feet, picks up the box and slowly walks out of his office. He walks slowly up to Duncan's table and says, “Mac...ummmm....can I see you in my office?”
NICK looks up at Joe and becomes concerned by the look on his face.
Duncan looks up at Joe. "Something wrong?"[NICK] Joe? What is it? D.Swift nods, "I understand, but when you can...I want to help. I used to be a SEAL. When you're ready, I'm here..." he starts to hand Mac his card and then stops, turning to Joe...his face turns down. The reactions tell him this can't be good.[JOE] Ummmm....maybe you'd want to talk about it in private? NICK stands up. He's not quite sure why but it seemed instinctive.
Duncan looks at Nick and Dragon, a feeling of dread coming over him. "Excuse me..." He gets up and walks to Joe's office.[NICK] Mac? Duncan turns and looks back at Nick.
NICK sits back down and looks at Dragon and shakes his head.[NICK] I don't like this. Duncan steps into Joe's office, waiting for him to come in.
D.Swift nods and sighs, wishing he could help his friend out. But he has no idea what's going on, other than his friends love is captured. "Me either. I haven't seen him like this. Ever. Look, do you have plans or anything of the place whoever this asshole is keeping his wife?
JOE comes in and closes the door.[JOE] I think you'll want to sit down. JOE says to Duncan.
Duncan looks at Joe. "That bad..." He says under his breath and takes a seat.[NICK] Yeah. But they've beefed up security since we were there. There's just no feasible way to get in now. JOE leans against the edge of his desk. He's still holding the box the young man had brought him.
D.Swift shakes his head, "No system is without flaw. None. You just have to look hard enough. You'd be amazed the places Captain Spence could get into...but you'd need some serious details to pull it off if security is as tight as you're making it sound."[JOE] One of my guys just came in with a report. JOE hesitates.[Duncan] And? JOE takes a deep breath.
Duncan readies himself for the worst possible news.[JOE] And this. JOE holds out the box he's been holding.[JOE] I'm sorry, Mac. I'm really.... Duncan takes the box from Joe and opens it.
JOE 's voice cracks and he can't continue speaking.[NICK] I haven't been able to get any plans of the upgrades. I have completely run out of ideas. Duncan feels tears come to his eyes. He picks up the pendant he had given Cara and her wedding ring. He then picked up the plastic bag full of Cara's hair.
NICK says but his attention is on Joe's office and the closed door. He fig its in his chair.
JOE steadies himself knowing Mac will want details.
D.Swift hums and thinks for a minute, "Like I said, I used to be a SEAL." Dragon seems to be centered on the door too, "I could try some recon...but I don't want to risk any harm coming to her." he finally just grunts, "Dammit, I have to know what's going on in there. Joe seems a good guy, but...[D.Swift] What could he have that has Mac that upset. He's mortal... Duncan fights off the tears for now. "This is from Horton, isn't it?"[JOE] Before they.....Horton cut her hair off and it was laying on the ground next to the body. Her new Watcher is the one who found her. He removed the jewelry. [Duncan] Before they what? Duncan prays he doesn't say behead her.
JOE closes his eyes. He can't bring himself to say the word. He loved that little girl, too. Just like everyone who had ever met her. And he knows what it will do to Mac. He bows his head and a tear escapes his closed eyes.
Duncan feels the tears burning in his eyes. His voice is a hoarse whisper, "Joe, please tell me."
JOE turns his back on Duncan as he fights for emotional control.
Duncan gets up from his seat and walks over to Joe and puts a hand on his shoulder. "I know it's not easy for you, but I need to know."[NICK] Joe's good people, Dragon. He's a good friend....one of Mac's best friends. JOE blurts out as he covers his face with his hands and tries, at least not to sob, "She's dead, Mac. They took her head."
D.Swift nods, "I can feel that. He seems like a good ole boy. Did Mac...trust him with the truth?" he just can't stand it, "I swear to god, if they come out of that room and Duncan looks worse than he did when he went in, someone is going to die. Painfully."
JOE leans his hands on his desk.
Duncan shakes his head. "No...no...someones got their info wrong..."
Duncan back away from Joe and leans against the wall, his legs unable to hold up his weight. He could feel his heart tearing in two. He slides down the wall and ends up on the floor, tears streaming down his face.
Duncan feels like he can't catch his breath. She couldn't be dead! He would know if she was. He would have felt it!
Duncan starts sobbing unable to hold back his tears.
JOE pulls himself together and walks over to Duncan and places his hands on his shoulders.[JOE] God....I am so sorry. Duncan 's hand grasps the pendant and wedding ring tightly in his hands. He looks up at Joe and gives him a nod.
JOE goes to the door and motions for Nick.
NICK sees Joe motioning for him and gets up and hurries to Joe's office. As he steps inside and sees Mac he looks at Joe.[NICK] Is it....? NICK whispers.
JOE nods.
D.Swift sits outside, how long he will sit without being an asshole and barging in is up to debate. Something is going on. Something involving someone he calls friend. He doesn't take that lightly.
NICK walks over to Duncan and squats down in front of him.[NICK] Mac? NICK says softly.
Duncan looks at Nick, tears still streaming steadily down his face. His voice is only a whisper, "She's gone..."
NICK nods silently. Then reaches out and puts his hand on Duncan's shoulder.
NICK gives Duncan's shoulder a slight squeeze.
D.Swift barges into the office, uninvited. He takes one look at MacLeod and his face immediately turns to a violent face of anger. He looks to Dawson, "You just met me. Fine. But someone is going to die. I need you to tell me who. Now." Overbearing little shit, isn't he? But Mac is his friend.
Duncan feels his whole world crashing down. What did he have now? Cara was gone, he had nothing to live for.
Duncan closes his eyes and rests his head against the wall, letting the grief overwhelm him.
JOE takes dragon by the arm and moves him to the other side of the office and says quietly, "Mac's wife is dead."
D.Swift cringes even more. He thought maybe she was just hurt. He was praying that wasn't true. He sighs, "I...don't know what to say. But someone has to pay for this, Joe. Someone has to pay..." he looks to MacLeod, not sure what to say to his friend.
Duncan is filled with sadness and anger. Horton killed her! Duncan knew he should have just gone in that night and get her. At least then, they would be together in life or in death. But she was gone and he wasn't able to go with her.
NICK squeezes Mac's shoulder and says softly, "Come on Mac. Let me take you home....or where ever it is you're staying."
JOE turns his back on them again. His shoulders slump and he suddenly feels like a very old man. Tears stream down his cheeks. He walks over to the single window in the room and leans against it, his eyes closed tightly.
Duncan opens his eyes and focuses on Nick. His voice is still thick with emotion. "Yeah, I'm staying with Wyn, another Immortal."
D.Swift just shakes his head, "MacLeod..." he says, a tear even forming in his eye, "I'm...sorry. I'm here for you. Anything..." he walks over, leans down and grasps Mac's shoulder, "Anything." he turns and hands Nick a card, "Call me. We have to talk. Mac. I mean it...anything..."
NICK nods. Then he clicks on something and says, "Isn't that your father-in-laws girlfriend? Are you sure you want to go there? Are you ready to tell him about this?"
Duncan looks up at Dragon. "Thanks."
Duncan looks back at Nick. "I have to."
D.Swift puts his head in his hands. He can empathize. Whoever did this has to pay. They have to pay.[NICK] Ok. Come on. I'll drive you. NICK says softly. He gets to his feet and holds his hand out to help Mac up.
Duncan struggles to his feet, his legs feeling more like jelly than bone. The world felt a bit dream like, like he was in a nightmare he couldn't wake up from.
JOE turns back to his friend and says in a husky voice, "Is there anyone you want me to call, Mac?"
JOE already knows he's going to have to break the news to Methos and he is definitely dreading that.
NICK puts his arm around Duncan's shoulders to support him.
Duncan looks at Joe. "I don't think so." He looks at Nick. "Are you going to tell Amanda, or would you rather I do it?"[NICK] I'll tell you. You have enough to deal with right now. D.Swift wipes more tears from his eyes. He just saw his friend again, and this happens? No. Uh uh. You don't just kill a man's wife like that. He doesn't raise his head from his hands, "Duncan. Call me. Please. You have friends that love you, don't forget that."[NICK] Come on, Mac. Let's get you out of here. Duncan looks at Dragon. "I will call you." He looks back at Joe. "Could you call Richie and Cresta? They should know."
NICK to Dragon he says, "I'll be in touch. And you're right. We'll figure something out."[JOE] Sure, Mac. Anything you want. I......I'm sorry. D.Swift just nods. He has a feeling Nick isn't about to let this stand either. He waits for them to leave. He and Dawson need to have a little talk.
Duncan grabs the box and puts the wedding ring and pendant back in, on top of Cara's hair. He closes it up. He gives Joe a slight nod and then walks out of Joe's office.
NICK leads mac out of the office, stopping long enough to get their coats, then leads him out of the bar and to his car.
D.Swift turns to Dawson, "This isn't easy for either of us. But Mac and I go way back. What do you know, Joe? And who are you?" tears are still drying on his eyes, "How do you know so much? I want to help. But I can't do that without information."
NICK opens the passenger door and tosses their coats in the back seat. He goes around and gets in.
Duncan gets in and closes the door. He rests his head against the head rest. He still feels tears pricking at his eyes. He talks softly, "I can't believe it, Nick. I don't want to believe it."
JOE eyes Dragon for a few minutes. Mac seemed to trust him so he figures he must be one of the good guys. He gestures to the couch and says, Take a seat. It's kid of a detailed story."
D.Swift nods, "All right." he sniffles a bit, "I'm trying to keep my composure, Joe. But it's not everyday you see an old friend for the first time in years and find out that his wife is dead. Someone has to pay for this. But I'm all ears."
NICK is at a loss for something to say. He remembers how it felt when his own wife died and he can only imagine how it would feel to lose Amanda. All he can come up with, though, is, "I know, Mac. I know."[JOE] Do you know what a Watcher is? NICK pulls out of the parking lot and heads away from the bar.
D.Swift shakes his head, "No...but I have a feeling it's going to creep me out.[NICK] Where are we going? NICK asks.
JOE proceeds to tell him about the Watchers, what they do, their code, etc. And he finishes with, "I am MacLeod's Watcher. And his friend."[JOE] I have been for several years now. My God Daughter was CJ's Watcher until last year so CJ and I became good friends too. [JOE] It was her new Watcher that found her and came to me with the report. JOE shakes his head and rubs his hand across his face.
Duncan takes a deep breath composing himself a bit. "Towards the ritzy-er side of town. Wyn lives just outside the city limits." He proceeds to give Nick more detailed directions.[JOE] Why her? Of all people. Why her? JOE mutters.
NICK nods and drives to Wyn's house.
D.Swift shakes his head, "I should have known. In 1260 years, I should have figured out that you all knew about us..." he sighs, "All right. So we know each other now. Who did this, Joe? If Mac loved her, she had to be great. But evil is evil, and it has to pay. I've never seen Mac like this.
JOE proceeds to tell him about the renegade Watchers and James Horton and how Mac had killed him and everyone thought they had disbanded.[JOE] But last year Horton's son turned up, Sidney Horton, with a whole new organization of renegades. He has quite an operation. I guess he's using Immortals to terminate other Immortals. He's using some kind of drug to brain wash them. That's about all I know right now. D.Swift puts his face in his hands, "Mortals with a god complex...and here I thought only the worst of us got those that bad." he holds back tears, "So they killed Mac's wife?" he shakes his head, "I wish I could have known her, I'm sorry Joe. But who is in charge of these renegades?Where are they?conitnued on page 2

NICK pulls up in front of the house and stops the car.[/i]
[NICK] Do you want me to go in with you, Mac?
D.Swift ehhhs, "brainwash us? How in the...that can't be easy given our fast recovery to drug. Have you managed to get hold of a sample?
Duncan looks at Nick and nods. "I would be grateful if you did. I don't know if I'll be able to get it all out."
[NICK] Sure. No problem.
NICK says and gets out of the car.
[JOE] I think Mac did. That's how they got their hands on CJ. Nick was part of their mission so you might talk to him. Mac's going to have enough to deal with right now. i wouldn't bother him with a bunch of questions.
Duncan gets out of the car. He notices that both Liam and Wyn's car are there. This wasn't gong to be easy for either one of them. He walks to the front, opens it, and walks inside.
NICK follows close behind.
D.Swift nods, "I'm not about to. I hope he calls...but just because I'm worried. Now is not the time to ask MacLeod questions. I'm no chemist, but if Nick has a sample, I've got a couple labs we could send it to. Not sure how we'd cover up our reasoning. But..." he sighs, "I can't just stand by..
[D.Swift] And watch my friend suffer. I have to do SOMETHING
Duncan knows they are home because he felt the buzz as he came up the walkway. He takes off his coat and puts it and his sword in the closet. "Need something to drink?"
[JOE] I understand. I'm sure he will be in touch when he can. Just give him some time. He was very much in love with CJ as she with him. They had kind of a storybook romance. The perfect couple. They brought out the best in each other. Seemed like a part of each other. I'll be surprised if he makes it through this.
NICK shakes his head. He wants to stay alert. He still has to go home and tell Amanda.
[JOE] Now...if you will excuse me....I think I'd like some time alone. You understand.
JOE says and gets to his feet and walks to the door which he holds open.
D.Swift shakes his head, "Mac will make it through this. He's strong. But he will have revenge for her life, if it means my head..." he nods, "Of course. I'm sorry to have taken up your time." he reaches out to shake Joe's hand and then heads for the exit to the bar.
Duncan nods and walks over to the liquor cabinet in the living room He opens it and pours himself a glass of whiskey. He grabs another glass and pours whiskey into that. He grabs both glasses and the bottle and places them on the coffee table. He knows Liam will probably want it.
LIAM is in the kitchen with Wyn stealing cookies while she bakes them.
Delwyn chuckles as she slaps his hand away. "Stop that! You're going to eat them all and get fat." She pokes him in the side.
LIAM feels the buzz of an Immortal and hears the door open.
[LIAM] Behave yourself, woman. We have company.
LIAM laughs and heads for the front room.
Delwyn feels the buzz as well. She wipes her hands on a dishtowel and walks out of the kitchen into the living room
LIAM enters the hall and sees Duncan at the liquor cabinet and Nick standing in the shadows.
[LIAM] Hey, Mac. I wouldn't fill up on that stuff right now. Wyn has prepared a big meal and there might even be a few cookies left.
LIAM says light heartedly as he comes into the living room.
Delwyn pauses near Liam. She could feel the sadness coming off of Duncan, which had been there ever since Cara was taken again, but it was deeper now. The feeling put her on edge.
LIAM looks over at Nick and extends his hand.
[LIAM] It's Nick, right?
[NICK] Yes, sir.
NICK says shaking Liam's hand.
Duncan After he places the glasses and whiskey bottle on the coffee table he looks toward Nick and Liam and then to Wyn. He sits down on the sofa and takes a sip from his glass.
[LIAM] Welcome, Nick. Stay for dinner?
Delwyn follows Liam and stands beside him. She gives Nick a smile. "Hi, Nick. I'm Delwyn, but please call me Wyn."
LIAM catches a glimpse of Duncan out of the corner of his eye and turns and looks at Wyn. Then back at Duncan...then at Nick.
LIAM walks over to the chair...the same chair he sat in when Duncan told him he had come home alone. He sits on the front edge of the cushion and looks directly at Duncan.
[LIAM] What is it, son?
LIAM says softly.
NICK moves to the arm of the couch and sits on it.
Duncan has the box Joe gave him on the coffee table as well. He looks at Liam, his gaze grief stricken.
Delwyn moves over to Liam and stands behind the chair, placing a hand on his shoulder.
LIAM searches Duncan's eyes for a few seconds then starts to slowly shake his head.
[LIAM] No.
LIAM whispers.
[LIAM] No.
NICK feels a lump growing in his own throat.
Duncan feels tears welling up in his eyes again He knows if he says it out loud that it would make it that much more real. His voice is a husky whisper, "I'm sorry. Cara's..."
[LIAM] NO!!
LIAM shouts and jumps to his feet.
[LIAM] NO!
LIAM turns his back on Duncan and closes his eyes.
Delwyn jumps back from the chair, scared by Liam's outburst.
Delwyn can feel tears gathering in her eyes. She hadn't known Cara long, but she considered her a friend.
LIAM feels his knees turn to mush and grabs for the back of the chair.
[LIAM] No.
LIAM whispers covers his face with his free hand.
[LIAM] No, no, no, no, no.
Duncan gets up from the sofa and goes to Liam. He felt his heart wrench as he watches his father in law. He rests a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry...I can't believe it either."
LIAM repeats over and over again, shaking his head.
LIAM turns around and pulls Duncan to him as a father would a son.
Delwyn just seeing Liam's reaction causes the tears to start streaming down her face. She could feel his overwhelming grief and she wished she could make it go away.
LIAM whispers a prayer in Gaelic as he holds Duncan.
Duncan holds his father-in-law tightly. He feels the tears start streaming down his face once again.
Duncan whispers, "I shouldn't have left her. I'm sorry."
NICK looks away as the scene before him overwhelms him with emotion.
LIAM manages to speak but only in a whisper.
[LIAM] No, son. No....you're not to blame. No...it's definitely not your fault.
Delwyn walks into the kitchen. Se leans against a counter, puts her head in her hands and cries.
[Duncan] It is...I shouldn't have let her go in there...
LIAM speaks quiet words of comfort to Duncan.
Duncan feelings of guilt were washing over him. He should have told her to tell someone else where to get the vial, that it was too dangerous for her to go in there again.
[LIAM] No, son. Don't do this to yourself. It's not your fault. Shhhhh......shhhhhh.
Duncan closes his eyes. "What am I going to do without her?"
[LIAM] I know, son. I know. Shhhhh.....shhhh.
Duncan starts to sob once again.
[LIAM] You'll go on, son. You'll go on. It's what she'd want you to do. We'll all....just go on.
LIAM says as much to convince himself as Duncan.
[Duncan] I can't. Part of me's died. I can't...
LIAM places his hand on the back of Duncan's head and holds his head against his shoulder.
Delwyn tries to pull herself together. She quiets her sobs, but tears stream down her cheeks. She grabs the dishtowel she used to wipe her hands to wipe off her face, as she walks back out into the living room
[LIAM] You can, son. You can. She wouldn't want you to give up. You know that. She would want you to go on.
[LIAM] For her....you have to go on. We all do.
LIAM his voice cracks and he can't continue speaking. Tears stream down his own cheeks as his heart breaks.
Duncan didn't know if he really could go on living without her in his life. He had loved her so much. He was utterly lost without her.
NICK realizes that everything is under control....so to speak...and that he is not needed here. So he quietly steals out of the living room and out the front door. He goes to his car and gets in. Now he must go tell Amanda. He pulls away from the curb and drives off.

NICK pulls into his parking place at the Queen Ann condos, gets out of his car and heads inside. He goes to the elevator, steps in and pushes the button. He leans against the back wall and closes his eyes. When the elevator stops he gets out and walks to his front door where he hesitates before putting the key in the lock. Finally he takes a deep breath and unlocks the door and walks inside, closing the door behind him. He sets his briefcase on the small table in the hallway and his sword on top of it and puts his jacket in the closet and then walks into the living room. He doesn't see Amanda in the room so he goes over to the sliding glass door and stares out at the ocean, his hands shoved in his pants pockets.
Amanda is in the condo, but in the master. It looks as if she's reading upon first glance but it's quite noticeable after a few short minutes that she isn't concentrating on the book itself. She puts it down on the bedside cabinet when she hears Nick walk in, his entrance giving her an excuse to put her mind on something else. She gets up and walks into the living room and, seeing him on the balcony, crosses the room to stand beside him. She can tell from his demeanor that something isn't quite right.
NICK fells her come up next to him and turns to look at her. He uses the tips of his fingers to trace the line of her jaw. He gives her a small smile and says, "I love you."
Amanda gives a smile in response, "I love you too, Nick," she responds before adding. "Now what's going on?"
NICK takes her by the hand and leads her over to the couch and sits, pulling her gently down next to him. He turns so that he is facing her and takes both of her hands in his. He looks directly into her eyes for a few seconds before speaking.[NICK] I have some bad news. As he thinks about his news his eyes fill with tears that threaten to spill down his cheeks.
Amanda's stomach had started dropping at his tone of voice, and his comment does absolutely nothing to alleviate any worry. A look of obvious worry flashes across her face, concern in her eyes as she takes in his demeanor "Nick... What's going on?"[NICK] It's...... His voice cracks and he tries to clear his throat.
Amanda gently prompts him to continue. "Nick...?"[NICK] It's......It's about CJ. That did it, her stomach just about drops to her feet and her face whitens considerably. She bites her lip, drawing back and shaking her head. "I don't want to hear it."
NICK pulls her into his arms and holds her head against his chest. The tears spill out of his closed eyes and down his cheeks.[NICK] She's gone, baby. NICK whispers.
Amanda tries to bite back the choked answer she knows she'll give should she speak. "No," Amanda responds in defiance, anger is easier to deal with than grief and emptiness. "No, I would know. I would know," she closes her eyes.
NICK holds her tight as he strokes her hair and gently rocks her.[NICK] It's true, baby. Joe got the word this afternoon. He just finished breaking it to Mac about an hour ago. Amanda pulls back again, her eyes narrowed in anger that he would so readily believe it, but behind her eyes the glistening of unshed tears can be seen. "It isn't true."
NICK nods.[NICK] Yes. It is, sweetheart. He even had her emerald pendant...the one she never takes off?...and her wedding ring. Her Watcher saw the Quickening and found her body. He removed the jewelry to give to Joe so he could give it to Mac. [NICK] Joe wouldn't lie about this. He's broken up about it too. NICK places the palm of his hand against her cheek.[NICK] I'm so very sorry, baby. Amanda rises from the couch and steps back, trying to maintain some distance. She shakes her head furiously, adamant in her refusal that it can't be true. She runs her hands across her face, "They're wrong," she answers but this time her heart isn't really in it. She knows Joe wouldn't lie about something like this.
NICK lets her go knowing that she has to come to terms with this in her own way. He sits forward on the couch, rests his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands. He may not have known her well, nut he had grown very fond of her. And he had just watched Duncan fall apart in front of him and now his news was breaking Amanda's heart. It was all so overwhelming. Plus it was dredging up old memories of when he had lost his own wife.[NICK] I wish to God they were, honey. I really do. NICK looks up at her and says, "Come here, baby." And he pats the couch next to him.
Amanda looks back at him, sorrow quite evident on her face, but she walks onto the balcony instead though not out of rudeness, needing more space. She's the tough one, she doesn't just break down in front of people.
NICK gets up and follows her to the sliding glass door. He stands in the doorway and watches her silently, his heart breaking for her.[NICK] What can I do, baby? NICK asks feeling completely helpless.[NICK] Do you want to be alone? Just tell me and I'll do it. Amanda leans on the railing, her demeanor looking quite dejected. She answers in a quiet tone, afraid that if she speaks any louder her voice will crack. "I don't know."
NICK takes a chance, knowing he'll probably be wrong, and walks up behind her putting his arms around her from behind.[NICK] It's okay to cry, baby. There's no shame in it. She feels the need to run, or slam a door in fury. Though she expects some kind of contact, knowing he wouldn't just leave her like that, the action, the comment, brings a few of the annoying tears she's trying so hard to hold back.[NICK] I know how much she meant to you. I know this must be tearing you up inside. You can't hold it in and let it fester, honey. You have to let it out. And I am here for you when you do. NICK lets go of her and slowly walks back into the condo. He goes over and sits back down on the couch, leans back and rests his head on the couch's back. ****two hours later**** NICK is still on the couch staring blankly at the ceiling.
Merrin is in bed, having returned to the apartment a half an hour earlier. She can sense that something is wrong but is afraid to ask what the problem is. She puts it down to "grown-up" troubles.
Amanda has been hoping that Merrin would just fall asleep but by now knows the little girl too well. Reluctantly she moves away from the balcony, having been rooted to the spot until then, and slowly walks toward Merrin's room.
NICK hears Amanda's movement and, without lifting his head, follows her with his eyes as she heads for Merrin's room.
Merrin looks up as Amanda enters, giving a beaming tooth-gapped smile. On her lap is a book open to around the middle, and she pats the hard cover. "We gotta finish this. I told CJ I'd tell her what happens at the end."
NICK gets up and goes down the hall. He stands next to the doorway outside of Merrin's room and leans his back against the wall and waits.
The comment stops Amanda in her tracks, and she almost walks out of the room there and then. But at Merrin's expectant expression she moves forward, taking her time though that only succeeds in prolonging it only a few seconds. Amanda sits on the edge of the bed and takes the book in her her own lap, flattening her hands against it before studying Merrin's innocent face.[Amanda] Merrin... you remember when we told you that CJ had to go out of town for a while? Amanda asks tentatively. The little girl hasn't been told the details of CJ's disappearance, she has already had to go through one loss recently and they had been afraid the news that CJ had been kidnapped would cause Merrin to draw inwards again.
Merrin nods, wide-eyed and adds a quiet. "Yes." And then she grins, obviously getting the wrong idea completely as she queries excitedly, "Is she back now?"
NICK heart is breaking and he closes his eyes and fights back tears.
Amanda closes the book carefully and sets it on the edge of the bed. She really contemplates leaving, letting Nick handle it. Heck, leaving town and becoming a recluse was sounding pretty appetizing "No... Merrin. CJ," she swallows and tries again. "CJ isn't coming back."
NICK holds his breath.
Again there was the innocent tone in her small voice as she responds with a slightly confused, but not altogether worried. "Is she back in Ireland?"
Amanda blinks back tears, which was no easy feet. Telling a child the woman she's come to see as a mother figure, is dead, is not something she's ever had to do before. It's even harder than she thought it would be. "No, she isn't back in Ireland. She was taken, Merrin." Amanda can't bring herself to say the words, "she's dead," and tries another tact. "You remember what happened to your mother?" Amanda asks hesitantly, knowing that Merrin has tried to block that night from her mind due to the traumatizing nature of what happened.
Merrin nods, but understands what Amanda is getting at very quickly. Her face crumples, having no problem with showing tears. "No!" she cries out in a tortured voice. She pushes away from Amanda as the woman's arms come out to offer comfort and she shouts again, "She's alive. She asked me to tell her about the book. She said she'd be back and I could paint her a picture!" Tears pour over her cheeks.
NICK's heart wrenches and he puts his head back against the wall and bites on his fist.
Amanda answers in a quiet voice, at a loss of how best to comfort the weeping child. "I'm sorry --."
Merrin pulls the covers up around her, almost hiding underneath the warm blankets, and buries her face in the material. She obviously isn't going to accept any kind of comfort.
Amanda stands and abruptly leaves the room, she quietly closes the door behind her and leans against it. And then she glances up and sees Nick standing there.
NICK turns and looks at Amanda.[NICK] You okay? Her eyes are red, burning as she meets his eyes. She shakes her head, biting her lower lip. "I can't stand this," she whispers.
NICK pulls her into his arms and holds her tight, as much for him as for her.[NICK] We'll get through this, honey. We'll get through it together. And we'll help Mac and Merrin get through it, too. It's what she would have wanted. Her arms move around his neck, needing the comfort finally. She isn't able to stop the tears as they start to run down her face, it's draining just trying to remain strong.
NICK scoops her up and carries her into their bedroom and gently lays her on the bed. He lays down next to her and holds her in his arms, gently rubbing her back and whispering words of comfort into her hair while his own tears flow freely.

It's early afternoon and Duncan is sitting in a chair in Wyn's guest bedroom. He has a book open and he had been reading it, but now he has the note that Cara wrote him in the book and he's reading that.
Amanda pulls up outside the house. The first time it hadn't gone so well, the house had been so full of people. Frustratingly she had decided it would be better just to leave than say anything. It had been one of the hardest trips she'd had to make and here she is about to try again. She leans against the car after closing the door and inhales a calming breath before walking the few steps to the front door and knocking.
Delwyn is in the kitchen, washing dishes. She straightens feeling the all too familiar buzz. She walks out of the kitchen and goes to the front door and answers it.
Amanda turns as the door opens and seeing Delwyn, she looks passed her into the area beyond. "Is Duncan here?" she asks directly.
Duncan puts the book down on the nightstand as the buzz comes over him. He gets up from his chair and walks out of the room and heads for the front door.
Delwyn opens the door wider and steps aside to let Amanda in. "Yes, he is. Please, come in."
Duncan stops in the living room seeing Amanda at the door.
Amanda offers a polite smile, and glances around once inside. It is with relief that she notes everyone isn't here again. Her eyes fall on Duncan as he walks in.
Duncan walks to Amanda. "Sorry about the other night. I didn't realize I'd have a whole bunch of visitors."
Delwyn closes the door. She looks at Amanda and Duncan. "Would you like some coffee ? Or anything else to drink?"
Amanda puts her hand into her pockets, this was uncomfortable enough, she isn't about to start fiddling around to distract herself; a mannerism that's usually so unlike her. She shakes her head at Delwyn's offer, "No thank you." If she flees as fast as the other day there won't be anytime to drink anything. She turns her attention back to Duncan, wanting to offer her condolences. But when a person is still in denial that's a hard thing to do. "It's all right," she assures him. "I would have called..." she shrugs and trails off.[Duncan] No, it's ok. There isn't anyone else here. Duncan looks at Wyn, giving her a look that he'd like to be alone with Amanda.
Delwyn nods silently and leaves the room and goes to her music room to play the piano.
Amanda remains standing in the same spot, she fails dismally to alleviate the sombre mood she's afraid her arrival has created. "Over a thousand years old and I still don't know what to say at a time like this."
Duncan gestures to the couch. "Let's sit down."
Amanda exhales somewhat shakily but does as he suggests. She perches on the edge of the couch as if preparing to get up and walk out at any second.
Duncan sits down next to her.
Amanda takes her hands out of her coat pockets and sets them on her lap.
Duncan takes her hand in his. He talks quietly. "I know it's hard to comprehend."
Amanda blinks a few times, and averts her eyes for the briefest of seconds. "I can't believe it," she replies forcefully.
Duncan sighs. "She's gone, Amanda. Joe gave me a box with Cara's hair in it, her wedding ring, and the pendant I gave her. Her Watcher collected those things. She saw the body."
Amanda closes her eyes and bows her head, she shakes her head lightly. Her attitude is quite reminiscent of when Nick had had this conversation with her. "I should never have let her come with me to Otterberg. I should have told her to stay here and let me deal with it," she replies in tortured exasperation.[Duncan] Don't blame yourself. She knew were she needed to go. She knew the risk involved. You know she wouldn't have taken no for an answer. "I should have given her the wrong flight number or locked her in her room. She was sick, Mac, and I should have been looking out for her," Amanda responds angrily.
Duncan gives her hand a gentle squeeze. "Don't do this to yourself, Amanda. It's not your fault." He should e listening to his own words since he blamed himself for not trying to get her out.
Amanda obviously isn't having none of it. It was easier to get angry than to remain sad and grieving. And she needs someone to blame. "I'm her best friend, I should never have let this happen."[Duncan] There wasn't anything you could have done to stop and you know that. You were her teacher so you know that she wouldn't allow you to do this alone when it pertained to her. Amanda looks up, staring him in the eyes. "Then you know you couldn't have done anything either," she responds pointedly.
Duncan looks away from her and gets up from the couch. He walks over to the liquor cabinet, but doesn't pour himself anything to drink.
Amanda stands a few seconds later and comes to a stop beside him, a hand rises to fall lightly on his shoulder. "I suppose neither of us can stop blaming ourselves."
Duncan clenches his jaw. He can feel tears come to his eyes. He turns to look at Amanda. "No, I guess not. But I'm her husband. It was my duty to protect her and I failed."
Amanda smiles but there is sadness behind it, "I don't want to have to repeat what you just said to me, Duncan."
Duncan smiles faintly. "Yeah, I know. I need to listen to what I'm saying too."[Amanda] Have you been eating? Amanda questions, knowing the Highlander all too well.[Duncan] Yes, I've been eating. Duncan says a bit exasperated. "Wyn's making sure I eat. She's worse than Cara."
Amanda smiles in spite of the current conversation. “They know what will happen if you're left alone at a time like this.”
Duncan nods. "I guess I should feel lucky to have friends that care so much."[Amanda] Sometimes we don't listen to the people that know better. TBC

LIAM walks out of the living room and up to the guest room door. he knocks once and opens it.
Duncan glances up from the letter Cara wrote and looks at Liam. "Yes?"
LIAM holds the door open and says, "Come on. We're going for a walk. It's a beautiful evening and Wyn wants us boys out of the house for a while. i thinks she's on a cleaning binge."
Duncan folds up the letter and places it on the night stand. "Did she tell you she wanted you out of the house or something?" He gets up from the bed, grabs a pair of shoes and puts them on. [LIAM] Son....when you've been around women as long as i have you don't need to wait to be told. Because if you do....it's already too late. LIAM chuckles.
Duncan chuckles. "Let's go then before she decides to throw us out."
LIAM leads the way down the hall. He stops just before the front door.
Duncan follows Liam. "At least I ate."[LIAM] Hang on a second while I tell her she's losing the men in her life. I'll be right with you. And don't you dare go run back to that bedroom. Duncan nods. "I won't go into my room. I promise."
LIAM walks into the kitchen and puts his arms around Wyn from behind.[LIAM] Gonna miss me? Delwyn turns her head to look over her shoulder. She gives him a smile. "Of course, love."[LIAM] Hey...he's out of his room at least. And I didn't have to drag him although I would have if it came to that. LIAM gives her a quick kiss and grins mischievously.[LIAM] I expect to be well paid for this little venture. LIAM winks.
Delwyn turns around. "Aren't you always?"
There's a twinkle in his eye.
LIAM stands back and looks her over real quick.[LIAM] You know what? Delwyn crosses her arms over her chest.
Delwyn feels a smirk tugging at her lips. "What?"[LIAM] You're kinda cute. for a girl. Delwyn laughs.
LIAM sweeps her up in a bear hug so that her feet aren't even touching the floor and spins her around.
LIAM sets her down and kisses her again then he turns and disappears out of the kitchen.
Delwyn calls out after him. "You two be careful!"
LIAM puts on his coat and sheaths his sword in the hallway.[LIAM] Ready? LIAM says to Duncan.
Duncan grabs his coat and sword, placing it inside his coat. He looks at Liam. "Yeah, let's go."
LIAM opens the front door and heads down the front walk.
Duncan follows Liam, closing the door behind him.
LIAM leads the way out of Wyn's front gate and up the sidewalk away from the rest of the residential area.
Duncan catches up with Liam.
Greg watches the two men from his car, parked at a convenient distance.
LIAM looks up at the colors in the sky as the sun begins to set.
Duncan shoves his hands in his pockets.[LIAM] Look at those colors, will ya? Absolutely incredible. Duncan looks at the sky. The colors seem dull to him, though, not much seemed the same anymore since Cara was gone. "Yeah, they are," he says a bit dispassionately.[LIAM] I don't think there's an artist alive who could paint anything as spectacular. Greg starts the car and lets it idle. He shifts it effortlessly into drive.[LIAM] Cara Jean loved sunsets and sunrises. And rainbows....she was crazy about rainbows. I remember when she was about 6 we saw a double rainbow and she went nuts. She wanted me to bring it in the house so she could hang it in her room. Wouldn't take no for an answer. LIAM says proudly.
Duncan smiles a bit hearing that story.
Greg turns the car out into the street and guns the motor, bringing it up to speed quickly.[Duncan] I can't remember if she ever did take no for an answer. Duncan thinks. "No, I don't think she did take it as an answer to anything."
Greg aims the car directly at Duncan and Liam
The sidewalk ends and there is but a narrow shoulder of dirt on either side of the road. There are no houses here....it's mostly open lots and fields of dry grass.
LIAM chuckles.
Duncan looks over his shoulder and sees a car coming straight for them. He could feel the buzz go through him.[LIAM] That's my Cara Jean. She wrote the book on stubbornness Duncan grabs Liam's arm. "Run..."
LIAM turns his head as he feels an Immortal buzz and sees the car coming for them. He turns on his heels and starts to sprint up the road, looking for a place to get away from it.
Greg sees the men start to run and changes his target to Liam.
Duncan takes off in a fast run.
LIAM sees a level place a few yards ahead of them and points to the break in the fence.[LIAM] There. Head there. LIAM yells.
Duncan looks over his shoulder again and sees the driver was taking aim at Liam. "Get out of here, Liam!"
Greg laughs as the car strikes Liam and his body rolls up and over the car.
LIAM stumbles over an uneven spot in the road. He recovers but it has slowed his progress
Duncan runs toward the fence Liam mentioned.
Duncan 's steps falter for a split second before he runs toward the car.
LIAM feels himself being lifted off the ground and hears the unmistakable sound of bones cracking as he flies over the car and lands hard on the road and rolls to a stop face down. His neck hurts badly and he tries to move but then darkness overtakes him and he dies.
Duncan 's hand goes to the sword in his coat and he pulls it out.
Duncan stops running and walks toward the car. He glances over to where Liam is and then his gaze goes back to the car.
Greg hits the brakes hard and the tires squeal as the car comes to a sudden stop.
Greg exits the car. He has a wicked grin on his face.
Duncan stops a few feet away from the car. His face goes slack with shock. "Gregor?"
[Greg] What's a matter Highlander, did I hurt your little friend?
Duncan recovers himself."
[Duncan] What the hell was that for?
Duncan has his sword in his hand, but the blade is pointed to the ground.
Greg draws sword. "There's a new king in town, baby. It's all me."
[Duncan] What happened? I thought you had cleaned up your act.
[Greg] I still live in the wild side ancient one!
Greg slashes horizontally at Duncan's midsection.
Duncan blocks the blow and shoves Gregor away from him.
[Greg] Oh come on MacLeod, you've got more guts than that!
Greg makes overhead slash, trying to split MacLeod's skull.
Duncan brings his sword up and blocks the blow again. "I don't want to fight you, Gregor. I thought you were getting better."
Duncan shoves Gregor's sword up and then hit Gregor in the face with the butt of his katana.
LIAM revives with a gasp but only to feel a sharp pain in his chest and he starts spitting out blood. He rolls over and sees that one of the car's windshield wipers is impaled in his chest....and through his heart. he tries to remove it but is too weak. He dies again.
Greg stumbles back, his hand goes immediately to his nose.
[Greg] Playing dirty MacLeod, we'll just......
Greg grabs his head and screams
Duncan watches Gregor, readying himself for another attack.
Greg falls to his knees, drops his sword, and falls face first into the ground. His body convulses for a moment, then he is still.
Duncan walks over slowly, his sword at his side. "Gregor?"
Duncan moves closer when he doesn't hear nay response from Gregor.
Duncan kneels down on one knee and rolls him over so he's on his back.
Duncan sees bruising on one of his temples. He grabs Gregor's chin and shoves his face to the other side and sees a bruise there. He shakes his head slowly.
Duncan gets up and looks down at Gregor's still body. This seemed all to familiar to him. It had to be coincidence.
Duncan backs away from Gregor and walks over to where Liam is.
Duncan kneels down beside Liam. He grabs the windshield wiper that's lodged in Liam's chest and pulls it out.
LIAM gasps for air as he starts to revive....again.
LIAM grabs his chest as it still is sore from the windshield wiper. He coughs painfully a couple of times and struggles to sit up.
Duncan helps Liam sit up.
LIAM concentrates on keeping his breathing slow and even until his lungs regain their elasticity. Finally he is able to relax and let himself breath normally and he nods a thank you to Duncan.
LIAM looks over and sees the body of someone on the ground.
[LIAM] Did he at least tell you why before you killed him?
LIAM asks Duncan.
[Duncan] I didn't kill him.
Duncan looks over at the motionless body. "He held his head, screamed and collapsed." He looks back at Liam. "He has bruising on both his temples."
LIAM furrows his brow and looks at Duncan.
[LIAM] You mean like Cara Jean had?
Duncan nods.
Duncan gets to his feet, his sword still in his hand, just in case Gregor decides to revive.
Duncan extends his other hand to Liam to help him get up.
LIAM struggles to his feet and follows Duncan over to Gregor.
[LIAM] Thanks.
LIAM says to Duncan.
[LIAM] You know I think the hardest part of this immortal crap is the reviving.
[LIAM] I feel like an elephant kicked me in the chest.
LIAM says rubbing his chest where the windshield wiper had been.
Duncan chuckles. "You realize that Wyn is going to have a fit when she sees you, right?"
[LIAM] So you have no idea why this yaywho decided to run us down?
[LIAM] Hey....i showed up on our first date looking like this and she still went out with me.
[LIAM] She'll rant and rave and then she love it all better.
[Duncan] His name is Gregor. He was one of my students.
[LIAM] You know this guy?
LIAM asks incredulously.
LIAM squats down next to Gregor and looks at the sides of his head.
[Duncan] Yeah, the last time we met we fought, but I thought I had knocked some sense into him. He said he was going to clean up his act.
LIAM reaches down and rolls up Gregor's sleeve and looks at the inside of his arm. He has to move it so that the headlights from the car illuminate the area he wants to see.
LIAM sees what he's looking for and reaches out with his free hand and taps Duncan on the arm.
[LIAM] Look at this.
Duncan squats down next to Liam.
LIAM points to what looks like needle tracks on the inside of Gregor's elbow.
[Duncan] He's been injecting himself with something.
[LIAM] No. I saw the same thing on another Immortal that i suspect is one of Horton's. I think that's how they inject the drug into their victims.
[Duncan] You saw another Immortal with the same thing?
Duncan looks at Liam. "When? Where?"
[Duncan] And who?
[LIAM] Yeah. An old student of Wyn's has come to town. He ran into her downtown and we all had lunch together.
Duncan furrows his brow. "Wyn never said anything to me about meeting up with one of her old students."
[LIAM] He said he was living in...get this....Otterburg, Germany and works for a pharmaceutical company as a research something.
[LIAM] He's supposedly hear on business.
[LIAM] He had headaches and the track marks and his memories of his past are inconsistent with the truth according to what Wyn says.
[LIAM] So now we have 2 of them in town?
[LIAM] This is getting better by the minute.
Duncan nods. "So, it seems."
LIAM grumbles and gets to his feet.
Duncan gets to his feet as well. "You need to tell Wyn to stay away from her student. He maybe out for her head."
[LIAM] Well....Seamus hasn't tried anything like this....yet anyway. But this guy was serious.
[LIAM] Uh....Duncan, my son....
LIAM puts his arm around Duncan's shoulder.[LIAM] Imagine trying to tell Cara Jean something like that. Then multiply that by 1000. [LIAM] Follow my drift? Duncan looks over at Liam. "She can't be that much worse than Cara."[LIAM] Ahhh...the naiveté of youth. LIAM chuckles.[/i] [Duncan] Let me try. She may not listen to you because you're too close to her. [LIAM] What are we going to do with junior here? Duncan looks down at Gregor. "I don't know. Sure as hell can't bring him to Wyn's place."
LIAM asks indicating Gregor.
LIAM agrees with him but knows that she would probably take the kid in and mother him just as she's been doing Duncan.
Duncan sighs. "Any ideas?"[LIAM] Well....there's always a motel. [Duncan] Then, we'll take him to a motel. [LIAM] But someone should stay with him. Wyn would be able to help him when...and if he comes around. Why don't we load him into his car and drive it back and I'll go in and talk to Wyn. You can stay with him. If she says no...we can take him to a motel. Duncan nods. "All right, but we can't leave her alone with him. He may wake up and try to take her head."
Richie pulls his bike to a stop in front of the house, gets off, removes his helmet and walks up to the front door and rings the doorbell. The buzz he feels is weaker than it was yesterday so he figures someone is missing.[LIAM] That goes without saying, son. Come on lets get him in his car. LIAM bends down and hooks his hands under Gregor's armpits.
Delwyn turns off the kitchen sink as she feels the buzz and hears the door bell. she grabs a towel and dries her hands as she walks to the front door.
Duncan squats down and grabs Gregor's legs.[LIAM] Ready? On three. 1...2....3. LIAM lifts Gregor off the ground and begins to make his way to Gregor's car.
Duncan helps lift Gregor and carry him to the car.
Delwyn opens the front door. "Richie, come in." She steps aside to let him in.
LIAM gets Gregor into the back seat of the car and then sits in the driver's seat.
Richie smiles politely at Wyn.[Richie] Hi. It's not too late is it? Duncan shuts the door and gets into the passenger's side.
LIAM since the engine is still running he puts the car in gear and makes a "U" turn and heads back to the house.
Delwyn smiles at Richie. "No, it's not."[Richie] Is Mac or Liam around? [Delwyn] no, they went for a walk, though I thought they might have been back by now. Why don't you come in and wait for them? Richie nods and says, "Thank you, ma'am."[Delwyn] Richie, please call me Wyn. Ma'am makes me sound so old. LIAM drives past the house and makes another "U" turn and pulls up to the curb behind Richie's bike.[LIAM] Looks like your friend is here. LIAM says to Duncan.[LIAM] I'll go talk to Wyn. You wait here. Delwyn looks out the door as she feels the buzz again and sees a strange car pulled up next to her house.
LIAM gets out of the car and heads for the front door.
Duncan nods.
Delwyn quirks a brow seeing Liam get out of the car. She takes in his appearance and sees the hole in his coat. "What the hell happened?"[Delwyn] And where's MacLeod? LIAM takes her by the arm and steers her into the dining room. To Richie he says, "Duncan is out in the car."
Richie nods and heads out to the car knowing some thing's up.[LIAM] Okay....now go an freak out on me. I'm fine. I just had a close encounter with a windshield wiper is all. But I do want to discuss something with you. And, yes...Duncan is fine. LIAM sits her down in a dining room chair and sits in one next to her, turning so that he is facing her.
Delwyn quirks a brow. "A windshield wiper?" She crosses her arms over her chest. "You were hit by a car?"
Richie gets out to the car and taps on the window next to Duncan's head.
Duncan rolls down the window and looks up at Richie.[LIAM] Did I say that? There's all kinds of ways to come in contact with windshield wipers you know. LIAM says teasingly.[Delwyn] Oh really? [Richie] What's up, mac? Delwyn says sarcastically. "Enlighten me, O'Dell."
Richie glances in the back seat and sees someone laying back there. Then he recognizes him.[Richie] Is that who i think it is? What the hell is he doing back in town? Richie says with obvious disgust.
Richie remembers how Gregor had nearly gotten him killed playing some dare devil game on his motorcycle.
Duncan glances behind him to look and then looks back at Richie. "Yeah, it's Gregor. Liam and I think Horton got to him."[LIAM] Look, darlin'....I'm fine...Duncan's fine....so just give it a rest...okay? There's something more important we need to discuss. [Richie] Why? What makes you think that? Delwyn takes a deep breath. "Ok, what is it that we need to talk about."[Duncan] Well, he wanted a fight and I fended him off not understanding why, since I thought he was straightening himself out. But all of a sudden he held his head, screamed, and collapsed. I walked over to him and saw the bruising on his temple. [LIAM] We sort of met up with an old friend of Duncan's. [Richie] This is getting nuts. Delwyn quirks a brow again. "Sort of? Who's this friend?"[Duncan] It seems one of Wyn's students is in town and Liam is pretty sure he's one of Horton's projects. [Duncan] I guess Horton wants to make certain I'm dead. [LIAM] While Duncan and his friend were.....discussing things.....the kid grabbed his head and screamed and went down....unconscious. He has bruises on his head just like Cara Jean had and a couple other things that is leading us to think that Horton got to him. he's out in his car right now...out cold. [Delwyn] He wasn't the one who happened mow you down was it? Delwyn 's tone is nonchalant.[Richie] I can't believe Greg actually tried to kill you. Although it shouldn't surprise me considering the last time he was around he was a total ass. LIAM reaches over and cups his hand behind her neck, leans in and gives her a kiss.[LIAM] A windshield wiper, Wyn. Not a lawn mower. LIAM winks and there's a twinkle in his eyes.
Delwyn tries not to smile, but can't sop herself. "Bring him in and lay him on the couch."[Duncan] Yeah, well, he and I came to an understanding back then. I thought he would have fixed his attitude. LIAM kisses her several time on and around her lips.
LIAM gets up, takes a few steps and turns back around and walks up behind her and gives her a couple of sloppy kisses on the back of her neck.
Delwyn squeals at the kisses on her neck.
As he walks away he says, "Aye. You are kinda cute. For a girl."
LIAM heads out to the car.[Duncan] But if Horton's gotten to him then I'll know why he tried to fight me. Richie hears the front door open and turns to look behind him.
Delwyn goes back into the kitchen and starts a pot of coffee and gets her herbs out. She's figuring she'll be in for a long night.
Duncan follows Richie's gaze.
LIAM nods at Richie as he looks around him to catch Duncan's attention. when he has it he gives hi a thumbs up and then opens the back door.
Duncan gets out of the car and goes over to help Liam.[LIAM] She said bring him in and put him on the couch. before I even had a chance to ask her. LIAM says proudly as he grabs Greg's legs and starts to pull him out of the car.
Richie sees that there really isn't room for him to get in the act so he steps back out of the way.[Richie] What can i do to help, guys? Duncan smiles a bit. He grabs Gregor underneath his arm pits and begins carrying him to the house.[LIAM] You can close the car doors and get out toys and open the front door. LIAM instructs.
Richie follows Liam's instructions and stops long enough to get his own sword from his bike then hurries to beat them to the front door and holds it open for them.
Delwyn goes to the hall linen closet and pulls out and old sheet. She goes into the living room and spreads the sheet over the couch to cover it. She didn't know what state her patient was going to be in.
LIAM leads the way into the living room and sets Gregor on the couch.
Duncan rests Gregor's upper torso on the couch and straightens.
Richie closes and locks the front door. he sets Liam and Mac's swords on the hallway table and carries his into the living room with him. He takes a seat on one of the sofa chairs and sets his sword on the floor next to him.
Delwyn pushes Duncan aside so she can look at the man lying on her couch. "What's his name?"[LIAM] There you are, pretty lady. Your patient has arrived. All this time and not a single sound out of him. I had to actually check to see if he was breathing. Duncan steps aside. "His name is Gregor. He's one of my former students."
LIAM moves out of Wyn's way.[LIAM] Anything you need that I can get for you, my dear? LIAM asks Wyn.
Delwyn looks up at Liam and gives him a smile before she looks back at Gregor. She sees blood on his face. She looks at Liam and then Duncan. "The bloody nose is from discussing something?"
Duncan looks at Liam.[LIAM] Well....you know how hot tempered those Scots are. LIAM teases.
Delwyn shakes her head. "Yeah, they can be a down right pain in the ass." Her gaze plants firmly onto Duncan.
Duncan 's eyes widen. "Hey, wait a second..."
Delwyn ignores Duncan and looks at Liam. "Get me some warm water so I can clean up his face."[LIAM] I wouldn't argue with the lady if I were you, lad. LIAM warns Duncan.[LIAM] Your wish is my command, ma lady. Duncan shuts his mouth and looks at Richie. "See what I've had to deal with? She's worse than Cara."
Delwyn clears her throat. "I'm can hear you, MacLeod."
Duncan sighs and pouts. He walks over to the ottoman and sits down.
LIAM disappears from the living room to fetch water for the resident "doctor". Considering what he had just gone through he is surprisingly good spirits. He glances up...past the ceiling and winks. "Yeah...at least he's not feeling sorry for himself anymore, Angel." He says aloud to the ceiling. He gets a pan of warm water, some rags and a bottle of alcohol and brings it all back into the living room and sets it all on the coffee table.
Delwyn looks over the rest of Gregor and sees no other injuries. She goes back to his face and the bruise on his temple catches her eye. She turns his head gently to see the other side and there was a bruise there as well. She frowns.
Richie stifles a chuckle and looks at Mac as if to say..."I feel sorry for you, dude."
Delwyn looks at Duncan. "He collapsed while you were fighting, didn't he?"[LIAM] I didn't say anything about fighting. they were discussing things. LIAM corrects her.
Delwyn rolls her eyes, She wasn't that stupid, but she'll play along. "Ok, so while you were discussing things he collapsed."
Richie hides a smile with his hand.
Duncan nods. "Yes, he collapsed, right after he held his head and screamed."[LIAM] And hasn't woke up since. LIAM adds.
Delwyn looks back at Gregor before she reaches over and grabs a rag and puts it in the water. She wrings it out and gently starts to clean the blood from his face. "We'll have to wait for him to wake up. I can give him the same tea I had given Cara to help her."
Delwyn sighs and says softly, "I think my house has become the official Immortal hospital."[LIAM] It was your idea. LIAM reminds her quietly.[LIAM] What has me concerned... LIAM says seriously.
Delwyn looks up at Liam. "I know."[LIAM] Is that he hasn't woke up yet. [LIAM] I've never heard of an Immortal slipping into a coma before. [Richie] Can we? Slip into a coma that is. Delwyn drops the rag back into the bowl and wrings it out again and finishes cleaning up Gregor's face. "How long has he been unconscious?"
LIAM looks at Richie and shrugs.
LIAM glances at Duncan Since he was dead the whole time he has no idea.
Duncan shrugs a bit. "A half hour to 45 minutes."
Delwyn puts the rag back into the bowl. Her brow furrows. "He should have woken up by now."[LIAM] Do you think it's possible that he is in a coma? Richie sat forward in his chair, fascinated to hear the answer.
Delwyn shakes her head a bit. "I don't know. I've never heard of it happening, but that doesn't mean is hasn't."[Richie] Or couldn't. Richie mumbles.[LIAM] So what are we going to do if he is in a coma? LIAM asks and sits on the arm of the couch at Gregor's head.
Delwyn looks at Liam. "Wait for him to wake up. There really isn't anything I can do for him."
Richie looks at his watch and realizes that Cresta will start to worry about him if he doesn't at least check in with her and he'll never hear the end of it.[Richie] Excuse me....may i use your phone? I need to check in with my...ummm...ol' lady*. Richie glances over at Duncan and shrugs, sheepishly.[Duncan] Don't let Cresta hear you say that. Delwyn looks at Richie. "Sure, there's a phone in the kitchen."[Richie] What? Richie looks at Duncan, confused.[Duncan] The ol' lady part. [LIAM] It's a generation thing, I think. Means something totally different now. LIAM observes with a smirk.[/]

Richie nods in agreement with Liam but says, "true...but I guess it is a little bit disrespectful." He gets up and heads for the kitchen to use the phone.
LIAM looks over at Duncan.[LIAM] He's a good kid. Duncan watches Richie go into the kitchen before looking at Liam. "Yeah, he is."[LIAM] Did you find him right after he became one of us? [Duncan] I found him over a little of a year before. He broke into my antiques shop. LIAM chuckles.[LIAM] Well...that's one way of doing it, I suppose. [LIAM] Did he have a clue? Duncan smiles a bit remembering that day. "No, but he knew something was very wrong when I showed up with a sword in hand and another Immortal came in and Connor, my kinsman, showed up too."
LIAM laughs heartily as he pictures the scene.[LIAM] Poor kid. Must have thought he had fallen through the looking glass. [Duncan] You could say that. [LIAM] Was he a street kid? [Duncan] He basically was. [Duncan] He had the bad attitude and he was cocky too. [LIAM] Well....from what i can see....you did a hell of a good job with him. You should be proud. Duncan smiles. "I am. He's come a long way since the first time we met."
LIAM looks over at the young man on the couch.
Delwyn gets up from the couch and grabs the throw that was over the back of the couch and covers Gregor.[LIAM] And this one was one of your students, too? Duncan nods. "He was a good kid, but he became disillusioned with the world and lost hope."***The part of Connor is temporarily being understudied*** *Connor* gets out of the cab and walks up to Wyn's front door. He feels the presence of several Immortals and snickers as he rings the bell.
LIAM feels an Immortal buzz and gets to his feet.
LIAM hears the doorbell and says, "I'll get it. Stay put."
Delwyn looks at the door as she feels buzz wash over her. She looks at Duncan. "I'm guessing that's another one of your friends."
LIAM goes to the front door. he grabs his sword on the way. He opens the door cautiously.
Duncan stands up and watches Liam open the door.[*Connor*] Hello. Would you tell Duncan that someone from his old neighborhood is here to see him? *Connor* says politely.
Duncan sees who it is and walks over. "Connor!"[LIAM] Duncan...it's for you. LIAM says without taking his eyes off of the Immortal.
LIAM steps aside when he realizes that it's someone Duncan knows.
*Connor* steps past Liam and embraces his clansman.
Delwyn goes into the dining room and brings out a couple of chairs. If this kept up she really would need to get a bigger house.[*Connor*] I just heard. Duncan I'm so very sorry. Duncan embraces Connor. "Thanks. Did you just get in town?"[*Connor*] Yes. I went by Joe's and he told me. He wouldn't give me any details. what the hell happened? Damn. I can't leave you alone for a second without you getting into some kind of trouble. Delwyn puts the chairs near the coffee table. She sighs a bit and then takes a seat in one of the chairs she just brought out.
LIAM closes the front door and slips past the two men and goes back into the living room.
Duncan sighs. "Come in and have a seat."
LIAM gives Wyn a kiss on her cheek and whispers, "bet you didn't know that your house was going to become Immortal Central, huh?"
Delwyn shakes her head as she whispers, "No, I didn't."[LIAM] I guess that's the price you pay for having a champion in your house. [Delwyn] And there is way too much testosterone in the house. LIAM teases still whispering.
Delwyn whispers softly.[Delwyn] I know I spelled it wrong, but went blank on how to spell it)) LIAM straightens up when the two men come into the living room.
*Connor* follows Duncan into the living room.[Duncan] Did you want anything to drink? *Connor* gives Duncan a look that says, "What do you think?" and nods.
LIAM waits for Duncan to introduce his friend.
Richie comes out of the kitchen and sees Connor.
Duncan smiles. He starts to walk over to the liquor cabinet, but pauses remembering Connor doesn't have a clue on who the others are.[Richie] Connor? Richie says from the hallway.
*Connor* turns around and smiles when he sees Richie.[*Connor*] Well...if it isn't the cat burglar *Connor* gives Richie a quick hug.[*Connor*] How are you doing? [*Connor*] Staying out of trouble? Richie smiles.[Duncan] Connor let me introduce you to the others here. [Richie] Have to. Cresta keeps me on a short leash. [*Connor*] Ahhh. Cresta. How is she doing with all of this? [Richie] Better than some of us. Richie says and glances at Duncan. KACEY sits in the deep shadows across from the house and snaps a few shots of the Immortal that has joined the ones already in the house.[/i] [KACEY] Now...who the hell is this? KACEY whispers.
KACEY had watched as Gregor was being carried into the house. She had no idea what had happened but she knew that it didn't look good. When the Immortal that had just arrived goes into the house, she takes out her cellphone and dials a number.[KACEY] Hey...it's Duggan. Boss....you were right. Powers was just carried into the house MacLeod is staying at. He looked like he was unconscious. KACEY listens quietly for a few minutes.[KACEY] No. I haven't located Monro yet. KACEY listens.[KACEY] You got it, boss. KACEY hangs up her cell phone and puts it back in her pocket. A dull throbbing starts in her head and she winces. She decides that she's had enough fun for one night and slinks away from the house with all the Immortals in it. she walks the 2 blocks to where she has parked her motorcycle and heads for the boathouse, stopping to get the current roll of film processed. When she gets home she goes upstairs and spreads the new photos out on the bed. She examines each one then gets up and gets her laptop from on top of th dresser. She hooks it up and goes to one specific website. KACEY takes a hand held scanner out of her backpack and hooks it to the laptop. She scans the picture of the Immortal who had shown up at the house. She types a few lines on the laptop and hits send. She waits for the recipient of the fax she has just sent with the picture to respond. When the response comes in she gets a grin across her face.[KACEY] Connor MacLeod. Wow. How big is that? And he's all mine? KACEY types something on the laptop and hits send. As she reads the response she jumps up and shouts, "Alright!" She sits back down and types, "thanks, boss." She closes her laptop and puts it back on the dresser. She lays down on the bed with her hands folded behind her head and stares up at the ceiling. She has a look of satisfaction on her face.

D.Swift is sitting in Joe's Bar having a bite to eat and casually reading sports illustrated, excited on the upcoming baseball season. But that's not what's really on his mind. Not at all. It's just a distraction. A very close friend with very severe problems is on his mind.
KACEY pulls her Harley into a parking spot, gets off and removes her helmet, locking it to the bike. Since she has been following her "prey" around and he has been frequenting this bar, she has decided to find out what the draw is. She makes her way to the front door. She feels an immortal buzz so she enters with caution, standing just inside the door while her eyes adjust to the dimly lit room.
Claire stepped in with a beaming smile, her attire this night blue jeans, sneakers and a long sleeved white button up shirt. A deep breath taken she moved toward the bar to speak with the man she would recognize as Joe, from Roux's description.*
D.Swift looks up from his meal and sighs as his eyes dart left to right. His hand instinctively reaches behind him and just inside his trench coat hanging on the chair. He expects to see Mac or maybe Nick, but instead looks to the door and sees a female he doesn't recognize. "Great. Just great."
KACEY looks around at the people in the bar. She notices an empty bar stool near the waitress station and heads for it.
JOE is wiping down the sink area behind the bar.
Claire walked to the bar and hopped on her toes her voice light and happy* Mr. Dawson?
JOE stops what he is doing and smiles congenially at the woman. [JOE] The one...and hopefully only. JOE says happily.[JOE] What can I do for you? KACEY takes a seat on the empty barstool and begins to remove her coat.
D.Swift tries to get Joe's attention. He casually makes eye contact with him if he can, then looks down at his hand that is on the opposite side of Kacey, hopefully hidden. He makes wrist twirling motions like a sword twirling, then moves his eyes casually to the girl who just took a seat. All the while, still eating his dinner, acting casual. Sneaky Sneaky.
Claire 's smile grew as she extended her hand out to him in greeting* I'm Clair, Clair Constantine, I spoke with Roux about the job opening you had. did she mention me?
JOE catches what Dragon is trying to tell him and nods as he glances quickly at the new customer then he returns his attention to the woman speaking to him.[JOE] Yes. She did mention something about it. You applied for a job? Is that my understanding? Claire blinked following Joe's gaze for a moment before looking back at him and dropping her unaccepted hand* Yes, is the job still available Sir?
KACEY notices Joe's glance to the man sitting next to her and smiles slightly to herself as she removes her coat and drapes it over the backrest of the bar stool. She gives her "neighbor" a sidelong glance and recognizes him as one of the male Immortals who had helped her "prey" to his car that first night when he was so drunk.
JOE nods.[JOE] Yes it is. Do you have any experience? D.Swift decides to break the ice, swallowing his bite and taking a sip of his beer. He says, to no one in particular...still looking at the Sports Illustrated, or is he? "Cardinals look strong this year. Red Sox too..."[Claire] Yes Sir Claire answered glancing at the two current patrons* you seem busy, should I come back some other time sir?
KACEY glances at the man next to her, slightly amused by his opener.
D.Swift glances over as she seems to do the same. He gives a slight shrug, "Well...they do." he turns the page slightly, just trying to get a feel. She carries a sword and they aren't formally introduced. Caution=good. "Love baseball. Sorry."[JOE] Not at all. When can you start, Miss Constantine? Claire glanced around then back to Joe* Right now if you like Mr. Dawson.
JOE points to a clipboard hanging from a hook under the cash register.
Claire looked at what he was pointing at with a questioning glance*[JOE] write your hours on the paper and there are aprons in the store room. JOE points down the hall at the far end of the bar.[JOE] Now what can I get for you? JOE asks Kacey.
D.Swift continues eating, not saying anything else for now. If the woman has anything to say, she will. But he does keep one eye on the magazine, one on her. He takes another sip of his beer.[KACEY] I'll have a shot of JQ Gold with lemon and salt. KACEY says simply.
JOE raises an eyebrow and really looks at the girl for the first time.[JOE] Sure. Coming right up. JOE says rather perplexed.[KACEY] Is there a problem? KACEY asks Joe.
D.Swift takes his last bite and pushes the plate away, "My compliments to the Chef. Hey Dawson..." he says kind off "patron to bartender" like as opposed to friendly like. "When's the next show in here?"
Claire moved down the hall to get an apron then returned grabbing up a cloth and moving to wipe down tables, She offers the silent man a smile and nod as she does so*
Duncan pulls into a parking spot outside of Joe's. He gets out and feels the buzz. He walks to the door and pushes it open.[JOE] No. Not at all. It's just not too many people order such a specific request. JOE looks at dragon and says, "In about an hour. I'll be sure and tell Mike you send your compliments.
JOE pours Kacey's drink and places a bowl of lemon wedges next to it and slides the salt shaker down to her.
KACEY feels an Immortal buzz and looks toward the door.
D.Swift looks up for a moment, looking around as he gets that familiar sensation. He looks to the door, eyes still looking a bit over his shoulder at the unfamiliar woman behind him. He raises his hand in greeting to MacLeod.
Duncan sees Dragon and walks toward the bar.
KACEY sees who has just walked in and sighs as she thinks to herself, "great. Just fucking great."
Lillith the taxi she rode in pulled to a stop outside the bar and she leaned forward paying the driver before getting out. That buzz was stronger then usual, there must be a rather large gathering this night she thought. moving to the door she entered stopping for a moment and looking at the strangers then to Duncan in silence*
JOE waves to Duncan.
JOE waves to Lillith.
Claire glanced at the swiftly gathering crowd with her smile and glanced to Joe awaiting some sort of instruction*
Lillith smiles at Joe offering a teasing wink as she moves to take a seat at the bar* Good evening Joe, do you have a cold Sam Adams for me?[D.Swift] Mac, how's it going?" he just waves with his eyes over his shoulder to the woman at his back, then makes a shoulder shrug as he speaks, "Good, I hope." Claire moved back behind the bar speaking to Joe* would you like me to get her drink sir?
Duncan takes off his coat puts in the empty chair next to him and takes a seat at the end of the bar.
KACEY licks the back of her hand and sprinkles some salt on it. She licks the salt and picks up the shot glance and downs its contents then bites a wedge of lemon.
Lillith glances to Duncan unsure of what to say. she had heard nothing since his last visit to her, but based on her gut, the news would not be good[JOE] For you, lovely lady....anything. JOE says to Lillith and gets her her beer.
Lillith a smile to Joe* you are too sweet.
Claire moves to stand before Duncan
Duncan looks at Dragon. "I'm ok."[Claire] what can I get you Sir? Duncan turns to look at the woman who asked him what he wanted. "I'll have a Scotch."
Claire nods and gets him his Scotch setting it on the bar before him with a smile and nod before stepping away[Claire] Let me know if I can get you anything else Sir D.Swift nods, "Good to hear." then the girl behind him, the one that makes him nervous, she just up and downs that shot. And she even does it properly. Perfect time to break the ice and feel her out. "Damn. Did it right and proper an everything. Bravo. Most people don't even know the right way.
Lillith gave Joe a smile* Do you plan on making music for us all tonight Joe?
KACEY sets her shot glass to the edge of the bar indicating she would like another one.
Duncan takes a sip of his drink and looks over to the person Dragon is talking to.
JOE sees what Kacey did with her glass and heads down to assist her.
Claire goes back to wiping down tables but keeps an eye on everyones drinks glancing at Mr.Swift she asks.[Claire] Can I get you another drink Sir? D.Swift nods at the girl, "Sure thing kid. I'll have what she's having..." he nods at the girl next to him, "She...drank me into it, I suppose." he hand her a 10, "Keep the change."
JOE refills Kacey's drink.
Claire nodded and moved to get him a shot like the lady had, returning it with a smile
KACEY repeats the procedure as she did with the first drink and set her glass down.
KACEY sneaks a glance at the Immortal who last came in. Then she glances around the bar and notices the catwalk and an exit sign up there.
KACEY calculates the time to make it to both exits.
D.Swift smiles at the waitress, "Thanks." he sprinkles some salt on his hand, downs the shot after licking it, then bites on his own. He smiles over at Kacy, following her glance. He winks if she catches his eye then heads over to MacLeod .
Lillith sat quietly drinking her Sam Adams and thinking over the test results of the ashes[D.Swift] Say Mac, want to take a seat with me. Catch up. He gestures with his eyes towards a corner table, out of easy earshot of the bar. "It'd be nice." he has a serious look on his face. Claire moved to Joe whispering in his ear softly[Claire] Are they all always so quiet and nervous Sir? Duncan looks at Dragon. "Sure, I'll do that in a minute, but I need to talk to someone first."
Lillith sat quietly still closing her eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath, she knew Duncan would come and ask her.
KACEY turns slightly on her stool so that she almost has her back to the man sitting next to her and the one standing next to him.
D.Swift nods and takes a seat next to Mac, waiting for him to do what he needs to do. He turns on his stool and nods at Kacey, "Excuse me ma'am...would you mind tossing me my sports illustrated?" he literally means toss. "Please?"
JOE takes a minute to approach Duncan.[JOE] Hey, Mac. How're you doing? Duncan gets up from his seat. He looks at Joe. "I've had better days."
KACEY picks up the magazine and tosses it to Dragon then turns away.
Claire getting no answer bites her lip and sets the rag in the sink and begin to walk around the bar stopping at where the instruments sit. a glance around and her hand moved out to strum the strings of the old guitar softly[JOE] You know....if there's anything....just ask, buddy. Right? Duncan nods. "Right." He grabs his drink and coat and goes over to Lillith.
Lillith 's eyes open and she looks at Duncan offering a soft smile as he approached* Hello Duncan.
Duncan gives her a faint smile. "Hi Lillith. Want to grab a table in the back so we can talk for a few minutes?"[Lillith] Of course Duncan, wherever you feel most comfortable Lillith answered calmly as she stood carrying her drink to a back corner table where they could speak*
D.Swift catches the magazine, "Nice throw. Thanks." he slips it back open to the baseball review and pretends to be reading, really keeping his eye on Kacey. Not that he suspects her of anything, but she's immortal...and he doesn't know her. And he has to wait for Mac anyway. He has some things to tell him.
KACEY waves a "thank you", keeping her back to him.
D.Swift thinks "She knows I'm watching her eyes..." he smiles over at the girl playing and claps a bit, then waves Joe over.
Duncan follows Lillith and takes a seat at the table, placing his coat on the empty chair next to him.
Claire glanced at the man clapping for a moment and offered a hesitant smile before moving away from the guitar. she had no desire to get in trouble her first night of work[Lillith] you want to know about the test result? Duncan nods. "Yes. Do you have them?"[Lillith] Yes. [Duncan] And? Lillith reached into her coat pocket and withdrew an envelope handing it to him
D.Swift shakes his head, "No. Keep playing. Please. I come in here for the music..." that, and it will give some noise to cover what he's going to whisper to Dawson.
KACEY sees her chance to make a quick exit before anyone else starts to pay attention to her. She would have liked to stay and party a little but she knows it's not too wise right now.
Duncan takes the envelope and opens it.[Lillith] I do not believe she is dead. the positive results were such a trace amount and the remainder was simple ashes. I believe this to be a set up. KACEY sets a couple of dollars on the bar as a tip and picks up her coat, gets off the stool and heads for the front door.
Claire glanced at Joe awaiting approval for her to play the guitar before she would.[Claire] Have a good evening Ma'am Claire called after the exiting woman
KACEY grumbles under her breath, "I was trying.".
Duncan looks up at Lillith. He is shocked by that. "So, you think she really isn't dead? I mean the DNA test has proven that?"[Lillith] no, i do not think she is dead. The DNA tells me she should be, but as I said. The majority of the ashes were just... ashes, not CJ's remains. D.Swift is tempted to follow, it's the private dick in him...but he has more important things to do right now. Morbid curiosity and mild robbery suspicion isn't enough to take him from talking to Mac. "Later ma'am." he calls after her.
JOE wipes down the bar where Kacey had sat and puts the $2 in a cup that he has made with Claire's name on it.[Claire] Mr. Dawson? [JOE] Yes? JOE looks at Claire.
Claire said “I think that gentleman wants to talk to you”
Claire points to D. Swift
JOE looks over at Dragon and raises an eyebrow.[Duncan] So, this test only proves that those ashes weren't Cara's but some of her DNA was found in them? [Lillith] yes Duncan sighs. "So, Cara could still be dead and that bastard is toying with me or Cara really is alive."
Lillith nodded once more
JOE moves down to dragon.[JOE] What's up? Duncan nods a bit. "Thank you, Lillith. It seems things aren't as clear cut as I'd hoped they'd be."
Claire picked up the guitar once more and strummed it softly, her fingers moving in rapid scales and arpeggios for a moment to loosen up her hands
JOE asks leaning forward across the bar.[Lillith] I am sorry Duncan, but you know if you ever need anything I am at your disposal. D.Swift smiles, "First off...tell her she can play if you don't mind..." he then leans in <>
Lillith 's dark eyes then moved to the young girl playing the guitar before asking Duncan[Lillith] Who is that girl? Duncan nods again. "I thank you for that."
D.Swift whispers, "I take it you didn't know that woman. Me either...but I do know she was casing your joint out. She was finding all obvious entrances and exits.[Lillith] You are, as always Duncan, most welcome Claire settled in a stool and let her hands continue over the strings changing from scales to a song. The guitar gave a soft whine as she pulled that string with her finger giving the song an immediate sound of the blues.
Duncan follows the line of Lillith's gaze. "I don't know who she is."
JOE nods.
Lillith narrowed her eyes as she stared at the girl* she plays well enough, at least.[JOE] Yeah...i noticed that. Also seemed she got a little nervous when mac came in. JOE scratches his chin thoughtfully then shakes his head.
Claire then amidst the bluesy sound of the guitar's chords she snuck in a little classical rift
JOE has a perplexed look on his face.
D.Swift nods, using the cover of sound to not keep whispering anymore, but he does speak in a low tone, "Very. And she wouldn't give me the time of day. She started casing when he did walk in. I was watching her eyes. She's not stupid either. She noticed me doing it. That's what we called in the SEALS, a hard mark. A pro? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe just a thief. But she noticed me. So I'd keep my eye on her.[Duncan] Joe usually has decent musicians playing. [JOE] I'm just glad mac didn't see her. [Lillith] It would seem he found a decent and classically trained one this time JOE says to dragon quietly.
JOE motions for Dragon to follow him and heads for his office.[D.Swift] Oh, he saw her. He was just too busy to worry..." quietly, "And I'm not sure i should mention it to him..." he follows Joe into his office, he'll catch up with Mac in a bit. [Duncan] If that's what your taste is. JOE he waves his hand to catch Claire's eye and motions that she has the place while he's in his office.[Lillith] Music is music Lillith said with a shrug
Claire 's playing continued but she nodded to Joe affirmatively
JOE closes his office door after Dragon comes in and walks over to his computer and switches it on. he types something on the keyboard and stands up straight while it loads up.
D.Swift steps behind Dawson, somewhere in there, he did grab his coat and has it slung over his arm. How they do that with a sword inside? It's a kind of magic. He waits.
JOE motions for Dragon to look at the monitor when his Watcher file pops up with CJ's picture.
Duncan gets up and grabs his drink and coat. "I thank you again, Lillith." Then, he walks back to the spot he had been sitting in at the bar.
Lillith 's dark eyes remained locked on the girl intently. She didn't seem at all impressed, more annoyed then anything, before she shook her head and looked to Duncan once more.[Lillith] Will you be alright? D.Swift nods, "Real looker."[JOE] That's Mac's wife. Now think about the woman you were watching. Lillith finished her beer and sat quietly for another few moments
Claire finished playing and set the guitar aside immediately and moved to the bar in front of Duncan[Claire] Another drink Sir? Duncan looks at the woman and nods.
Claire smiled and poured another Scotch for Duncan
Lillith stood and nodded to Duncan and the girl
D.Swift looks at the picture and his jaw drops, "Striking similarities...[Lillith] Have a good night, I must be on my way Duncan looks to Lillith. "You too."
Lillith made her way toward the exit and was gone, taking a leisurely stroll home.[JOE] I thought it was maybe just me. D.Swift shakes his head, "No. It isn't you. And didn't say this Horton character is using a brainwashing drug...my god. We can't tell Mac this." he sighs, "I hate keeping things from friends..."
Claire glanced around for a long silent moment before speaking to Duncan[Claire] My name is Claire, by the way, Claire Constantine... I just started tonight. JOE nods.[JOE] No. Definitely not. Not until we know for sure. No sense in getting his hopes up if we're wrong. D.Swift nods, "I'll put some people on her. Mortals, ex-SEALS. Men I can trust..." he sighs, "I hope it is her, but at the same time I don't...what if he has to fight her?"
Claire was just trying to be polite, her smile genuine as she watched Duncan. Her two colored eyes watched him closely[Claire] Are you alright Sir? You look upset [D.Swift] If...we can even find her again [JOE] Let's cross that bridge when we come to it. Duncan looks at Claire and gives her a bit of a smile. "I'll be ok. I'm Duncan MacLeod. Nice to meet you, Claire. Joe's a great guy. I'm sure you'll enjoy working with him.
D.Swift nods, "I'll keep a lid on it. Just keep me informed, I'll keep you informed. I don't have the resources nick does...but we should get back out there. He'll start to wonder."
JOE turns off the computer and heads back out into the bar.[Claire] Nice to meet you Mr. MacLeod, yes Joe seems very nice, I am sure I will. Claire moved to the sink to begin washing the glasses
Duncan takes a drink of Scotch.[Claire] Let me know if I can get you anything else Mr. MacLeod D.Swift heads out into the bar area and beelines for MacLeod, smiling at the girl, "Sorry to interrupt Miss. You play well." he nods to a corner table, "Can we talk Mac?"continued on page 2

KACEY leans on her Harley for a few minutes staring at the upstairs exit door. She toys with the idea of sneaking back in and observing from the catwalk. With all of the Immortals already in the bar the chance of them sensing her would be small.
Claire glanced to the rushed man and nodded gently at the compliment, though not taking it seriously. That had just been fun, not good playing. If her father ever heard her play like that there would have been hell to pay.
KACEY 's reason for wanting to go back inside is purely selfish and has nothing to do with the job she has been sent here to do. She just wants another look at the gorgeous Immortal.
Duncan nods. He grabs his stuff again and heads to the corner table.
Claire glasses washed she dried and put some away and set a couple still wet in the cooler to frost
D.Swift heads to the table and sits down, keeping his coat on. "Well...it's been a long time. I wish we had ran into each other under better circumstances. And I know we have a lot of catching up. We'll get to that...but first off..." "I only had two jobs going. So I canceled them. Swift Investigation Agency and all it's resources are at your disposal. Anything you want looked into, consider it looked."
Duncan takes a seat, putting his coat on a chair nearby and puts his drink on the table.
Duncan sits back in his chair. "Thanks, I may just need it."
Claire that done Claire decided to step outside for a breath of air and leave the men to their secrets. Out from behind the bar she moved and out the door, It would only be a short break
KACEY reaches into her pocket and takes out a pack of cigarettes and lights one while she sits on her bike and contemplates what she's going to do.
Claire once outside spotted the woman with the Harley and smiled calling over to her
[Claire] Nice bike!
Duncan takes a drink for his glass. "I got the DNA results on Cara's ashes. Her DNA was found, but the ashes were just regular ashes."
KACEY looks at Claire, her face almost void of expression.
[KACEY] Thanks.
Claire walked over casually to get a closer look at the bike* Mind if I take a closer look?
Claire was always a little to trusting and friendly, sometimes a good thing, sometimes not
D.Swift nods, "I'm ready for it. I've built up a decent network of international contacts over the years. Buddy, you don't have to deal with this alone...I know it has to be dealt with." he sighs, "But onto lighter notes, I ran into Fitzcairn a few years ago..."
KACEY takes a drag off of her cigarette.
KACEY gets up and steps aside, gesturing for her to "knock herself out".
[Duncan] Oh, really?
Claire beamed as she circled the bike admiringly& Wow, very nice... I own that heap over there
Claire gestured to the old mustang parked a short distance away
D.Swift Hmmmm, "Maybe she's alive. I can look into it." he nods, "Yeah, he was...pretending to be a cook! Can you believe it?!" he laughs, "That foppy old Brit" He wanted to just make Mac laugh, but if he can help...he will.
[KACEY] Mustangs are cool. They were pretty bad ass in their day.
KACEY says as she takes another drag of her cigarette.
[Claire] yeah back in that day, that thing is older then me
Claire laughed but agreed
KACEY thinks to herself, "so am I honey. So am I."
Duncan takes another drink from his glass. " A cook? He probably needed some money."
[KACEY] You just started here, i take it.
KACEY says after a few more drags of her cigarette.
[Claire] yeah, I did
[Claire] so did you just come out for a smoke? were you going to come back in and have another drink or play the guitar or anything?
Claire glanced back at the door for a moment then back to the woman offering a hand in greeting
[Claire] I'm Clair, Clair Constantine.
D.Swift smirks, "Probably. I dunno. And don't worry Mac, you've got lots of friends. We're going to all put all our energy into this. But let's just enjoy ourselves tonight, eh? What you been doing before this whole fiasco?
KACEY hesitates for a second then tosses down her cigarette and takes Claire's hand and gives it a very firm handshake as she stamps out her cigarette butt.
Duncan thinks for a moment.
[Claire] I best be getting back in there, are you coming in for another drink?
[KACEY] I'm not so sure I'll be going back in. And I definitely don't play the guitar. Or any other instrument for that matter.
[Duncan] Just the usual life stuff.
KACEY says in answer to her earlier question.
[Duncan] Trying to keep my head firmly attached.
Claire 's two colored eyes swept over the woman quickly taking note of a few oddities. pulling her hand gently away she nodded. [Claire] Well your always welcome Miss
KACEY looks almost longingly at the upstairs door again.
D.Swift would mention he got married and didn't invite Swift! But now is the WORST possible time to mention that. He nods, "Yeah, me too. It's been...busy in that department lately. Too busy. Do you think the gathering is really here?"
Claire took a couple backward steps, she recognized the woman as casing the joint, she herself had done her share of breaking and entering, she noticed as well the woman's weapon.
[Claire] Well I better get back to work, I'm not payed to stand outside and chat
[Duncan] It would seem that it is.
KACEY glances at Claire picking up on the change in her tone and quirks an eyebrow. But she says simply, "sure. Don't work too hard."
[Claire] Thanks, have a good night.
D.Swift sighs, "And here I was getting comfortable." he nods at the door, "That chick that left. She sure didn't think that. She didn't pay either of us any attention..." he fibs, he did promise to keep a lid on it, "But, lots like that." Mental note: try to find her again.
Claire moved back inside with a relieved sigh glancing at the two men as she made her way back to the bar.
[Claire] Either of you need another drink?
Claire 's tone was a bit different now, not so outgoing and relaxed. It now held a hint of nervousness to it.
D.Swift nods, "Sure thing kid. Could I get a beer. And put his on my tab." he quirks a brow, "You seemed a bit relieved to come in here. Some trash out there giving you trouble?"
Duncan looks at Claire. "I'm fine for now, thanks."
Claire shook her head in response to D.'s question about getting trouble, but she did indeed appear a little out of sorts. She got his beer quickly and delivered it to him.
[Claire] There ya are
Claire 's Scottish accent snuck through a tad in her nervousness. blinking and smiling hesitantly she moved back behind the bar before they could question her further
[JOE] Everything alright, Claire?
JOE asks quietly.
Claire nearly jumped out of her skin when Joe spoke but she turned to face him and nodded* yes Sir, fine...
[Claire] um Sir, that Lady.. I think she is going to try and rob you.
D.Swift nods his thanks, "Thanks." now he's curious about what's going on out there. But if he decides to check it out, so will Duncan. And that's the last thing he needs. "So, you sure I can't do anything for you? A little spar to clear your head. A drink on me? Anything man. I'm trying here."
KACEY starts to head up the stairs and stops halfway up.
[JOE] Do me a favor, hon.
JOE says with a smile.
Claire whispered to Joe. though she hoped he did not ask her what gave her that impression of the woman
[Claire] yes sir?
[JOE] Drop the sir. It's Joe. Just plain Joe.
Duncan smiles a little. "I know you are. I'm sorry, I'm just not real good company tonight. The whole DNA thing threw me for a loop."
Claire nodded* Joe.. alright..
[JOE] And as for someone robbing me....Don't you worry. It won't happen. Take my word for it.
Claire again nodded* alright..
D.Swift nods his head, "It throws me for a loop too, Mac. But there is something good that comes of it. Hope." he says quietly, "These Watchers...they aren't perfect. They can make mistakes. Hope is both our greatest strength and weakness. We gotta get to the bottom of this, man. you have to know
Claire asked softly then* Are they always so stressed?
KACEY changes her mind, descends the stairs and gets on her bike and rides away.
[JOE] Who?
Duncan nods. "Yeah, we do." He glances at the clock near the bar. "I need to get going."
Claire gestured to the two men whispering in the corner* You'd think they are spies or something
Claire jested
Duncan finishes his drink and gets up. He puts on his coat. "I'll talk to you later."
D.Swift sighs and nods, "You got my number Mac. Don't be afraid to use it. I'll use every resource I have to make this as right as it possibly can become."
Mike comes out of Joe's office and motions for him saying he has a phone call. Joe waves at Mike.
[JOE] Claire...the place is yours. I'll be in my office.
Duncan nods. "I will call you. I'm sure Nick will help out too."
Claire offered Duncan a smile* Have a good night Sir, God Speed.
Claire nods to Joe* alright Joe
JOE heads to his office and disappears inside and closes the door.
D.Swift nods, "He said he'd call me. I've got ex SEALS. He's got a huge network. We'll find out. Watch yourself out there MacLeod."
Duncan looks at Claire. "Good night, tell Joe I'll talk with him later." He walks to the door, pushes it open and leaves.
Claire caught that last statement D made but acted as if she had not and just kept cleaning.
D.Swift waves Claire over, "Can I get my tab dear?" he gives a friendly smile, "And don't give up that guitar, it sounded nice to me."
Claire nodded and added up his tab and delivered it to him
[Claire] thank you Sir
D.Swift pays the tab with cash, leaving a 50% tip for the girl. For some reason, she seems down on her luck to him. He hates to see that. He rises to leave, "I'll see you again, I'm a regular." he extends his hand, "Name's Swift. Dragon Swift."
Claire took his hand with her own small one and shook firmly* Claire Constantine, nice to meet you Mr. Swift. watch out for that lady out there. she had a sword on her.
Claire offered the friendly advice
[D.Swift] And...someone messes with or makes you nervous out there again..." he nods to the door, "You let one of us know. We'll take care of it."
D.Swift sighs, "She had a sword on her, did she?"
[Claire] yes Sir, and Thank You. Have a safe night God Speed.
D.Swift nods, "I'll keep an eye on her next time she's around. You take care of yourself. Welcome to Joe's, he'll take care of you. And the name's Dragon. Not sir. Sir was my father." he heads out.

***The part of Connor MacLeod is being temporarily understudied.*** Connor sits on the edge of the coffee table in front of Duncan and looks him in the eye. [*Connor] Tell me what happened. Connor says softly.
Greg 's head slumps to the side
Duncan tells Connor about the he and others, as well as, Cara going to Germany to get the serum that Horton used on her and others.
Connor listens to Duncan....knowing it is difficult but also knowing he needs to talk to someone who understands and knows him.[Duncan] Amanda, Cara and Ashlyn were trying to get out and ran into guards. A guard was aiming at Ashlyn and Amanda and Cara jumped in the way and took the shot. She gave Amanda the serum and told both of them to get out. She said she would behind them, but never made it out. Horton wanted me out of Germany and we left. He had people at the airport to make sure. I had to leave her or he would have made her life a living hell. Connor places his hand on Duncan's shoulder and gives it a gentle squeeze.
Duncan sighs. "I should have tried to get her out."[*Connor] Duncan....what do you think you could have done? If Horton was watching the airport and wanted you out of the country....what could you possibly have done? [Duncan] I could have died with her if I couldn't have gotten her out. [*Connor] Oh...sure. And just what would that accomplish? Duncan looks at Connor. "I know, it would have accomplished nothing." He say a bit frustrated.[*Connor] More importantly....is it what CJ would have wanted? Greg starts to mumble incoherently.
Duncan shakes his head. "No..." He looks over at Gregor.
Connor nods his head and follows Duncan's line of sight.[*Connor] So who is this guy anyway? Greg wakes and rises with a start. "Where am I?"
Duncan gets up and walks over to Gregor. "He was one of my students."[*Connor] Which explains...oh...sooo...much, Duncan. [Greg] MacLeod? Connor says halfway sarcastically
Duncan pulls a chair over to sit next to Gregor. "You're ok. I brought you to a friend's house when you lost consciousness."[Greg] What happened? [Duncan] I think you had a cerebral hemorrhage [Greg] Man, my head is pounding. [Duncan] You should probably stay lying down until the pain subsides. Duncan glances at the hallway wondering if he should wake Wyn to let her know her patient is awake.
Connor moves off of the coffee table back to the chair he was originally sitting in and watches the scene before him in curious silence. He feels like he has walked into a theater halfway through a movie.
Greg lays back down. "Last thing I remember was attacking you. I'm still really pissed at you for some reason, but something tells me we've already made peace.[Greg] How's that for an explanation Highlander? Connor quirks an eyebrow.[*Connor] Attack? You didn't say anything about that, brother. He attacked you? Your own student? Greg puts his face in his hands and groans.
Duncan looks at Connor. "Yes, he attacked me."
Connor sits back in the chair and puts his hands up defensively. [*Connor] Okay...okay.....just trying to put all the pieces together. Don't get testy. Duncan gets up from the chair. "I'll be right back." He's decided Wyn needs to be here and tend to Gregor. He walks down the hall and knocks on the door.
Connor watches Greg carefully in Duncan's absence.[Greg] Don't worry, I'm in no condition to fight. And you are? Delwyn wakes up hearing the knock on the door.
LIAM slips out from under Wyn and goes quietly to the bedroom door and opens it. he blinks from the hallway light.[LIAM] Yeah....what's happening? LIAM asks somewhat sleepily.
Duncan whispers. "I'm sorry to wake you, but Gregor is awake."
LIAM yawns and nods.[LIAM] Okay. Thanks. Be right there. Duncan nods and walks back down the hall and into the living room
LIAM closes the door back and goes over to the bed. He sits next to Wyn and leans down giving her a soft kiss to wake her.[LIAM] Hey, Sleeping Beauty. LIAM says softly.
Delwyn smiles. "I'm awake."[LIAM] It seems your patient has come to. LIAM gently moves a strand of hair from her face.
Delwyn stretches and then sits up. "Hand me my robe." She points to it sitting on the chest at the end of the bed.
LIAM gets her robe and holds it open for her
Connor looks up at Duncan as he re-enters the room.
Delwyn takes the robe from Liam. She gets out of bed and wraps the robe around her and ties the robe closed.[LIAM] Is there anything I could be doing to help? [Delwyn] You can stay here and sleep, if you want. [LIAM] And miss watching you perform miracles? Not a chance. LIAM smiles.
Delwyn chuckles.
Duncan looks at Gregor. "My friend Wyn is coming out here to take a look at you."
Delwyn opens the door and walks down the hall and into the living room[Greg] Two Highlanders and a nurse, I just can't win. Greg groans
Connor is watching his clansman intently.
LIAM leans against the door jam for a few minutes then goes into the kitchen to start a fresh pot of coffee.
Delwyn moves passed Duncan and goes over to the chair next to Gregor. "It seems your dislike of me bothering you, Duncan, has rubbed off on your student." She says with a bit of a smirk.
Duncan goes and sits on the ottoman, watching Gregor and Wyn.[Greg] Oh man this hurts. Delwyn sits down in the chair. "Is it your head? "[Greg] What else could it be? [Greg] I can't make any sense of my thoughts Delwyn quirks a brow. She reaches over and brushes his hair away from his temple. Just as she thought, there was a bruise.
Delwyn lets her hand fall away and she looks at Duncan. "He had bruising on both temple when you brought him here?"
Duncan nods. "Yeah, he did."
LIAM pours the finished coffee into a carafe and sets it and 4 mugs on a tray along with the creamer and sugar bowl and spoons and carries it out into the living room. He sets it down on the coffee table and prepares a mug for Wyn which he sets on the table near her, then pours one for himself.
LIAM sits in "his" chair and sips his coffee while he watches Wyn.
Delwyn looks back at Gregor. "I'll make you some tea to help get rid of your headache."
Delwyn gets up from the chair, grabbing the cup of coffee Liam poured for her and goes into the kitchen to start making the tea needed.[Greg] I find myself hating you MacLeod and being grateful to you at the same time. I remember being a photographer and a doctor. I think I was even supposed to be getting married. I can't even remember my fiancee's name! DAMN! Greg grabs his head. "AHH!"[Duncan] You need to calm down, Gregor. Delwyn grabs the tea kettle fills it with water and puts it on the stove to boil. She then goes to work, picking out the herbs she needs and wraps them in cheese cloth.
LIAM leans forward and asks in a quiet even tone, "What is the last thing you can clearly remember, lad?"[Greg] I remember a face, it was deformed and twisted, really gross. LIAM glances at Duncan and raises an eyebrow. he mouths the word, "Horton."
Duncan looks over at Liam and nods.[Greg] I remember the word, abomination. [LIAM] Do you remember anything else? Like where you were or how you got there? [Greg] I can't say that I really remember anything else clearly. I know I'm a doctor, but that wasn't why they wanted me. It keeps ringing over and over, "kill MacLeod," but I don't want to. Every time I fight the urge, my head pounds. [LIAM] Do you have any idea how long ago all this started? [Greg] No I don't. But I remember I was working at Seacouver General Hospital. Connor decides that this is just a little more than he can handle at this moment. he gets up and slowly makes his way to the front door and steps outside for some fresh air.
Delwyn walks over to the stove and turns off the burner for the tea kettle. She puts the herbs in the cup and pours the hot water over them and lets it steep for a couple of minutes, before pulling the herbs out. She grabs the honey and sugar from the cupboard and places a good measure of each into the tea to help cover up the bitter taste. She walks back into the living room and gives the mug to Gregor.[Delwyn] You have to drink all of it. If you need it to be sweeter, let me know. [LIAM] You said something about a fiancee....would she report you missing if you didn't come home for several days...or weeks...or even months? [Greg] Thank you...hey at least I remember my manners. [Greg] More than likely. LIAM is making mental notes to call the hospital and see when the last time he worked was and check and see if there has been a missing person's report filed and if so...when.
Delwyn moves out of the way so Liam and Gregor can talk. She walks over to Duncan and talks quietly. "Where'd Connor go?"
Duncan looks up at Wyn. "He's outside."
Delwyn quirks a brow. "And you're just sitting here?"
Duncan gets up. "Yeah, I know..." He walks out the front door.
Connor is sitting on a rock planter just in front of the front window and staring up at the sky.
Delwyn walks back into the kitchen to get her cup of coffee and then returns to the living room She takes a seat near Gregor and takes a sip of her coffee.
Greg drinks tea
Connor looks toward the front door when he hears it open.
LIAM sits back in his chair and rubs his chin as he thinks.
Greg looks at Wyn. "Thanks, this is helping. I didn't catch your name.
Connor sees that it's Duncan and returns his gaze out over the horizon.
Duncan looks around for Connor. He sees him and walks over.
Delwyn puts her cup on the coffee table. "You're welcome. My name is Delwyn, but everyone calls me Wyn."[Greg] Okay, great. Greg looks at Liam.[Greg] And I never caught your name. Duncan follows Connor's gaze. "You ok?"
LIAM is brought back from his deep thoughts by Greg's voice.[LIAM] Liam. LIAM says simply.
Connor nods a couple of times without looking up at Duncan.
[Greg] I"m sorry to inconvenience you both, especially since I took a shot at MacLeod
[LIAM] Somehow, laddie....I don't think you could help it.
Connor finally looks at Duncan and asks, "What about you, brother?"
Duncan takes a deep breath and lets it out. "I've been better."
Delwyn reaches for her cup of coffee and takes a sip.
Connor really looks at him now.
Connor places his hand on Duncan's shoulder again.
[*Connor] I'm sure you have.
[Delwyn] Don't worry about being an inconvenience.
[Greg] So do you have any idea what happened to me? IF you thought I was guilty, I somehow sense I would not be breathing.
[*Connor] Have you taken care of.....things?
[LIAM] We have our suspicions.
Duncan lets his gaze stay on the horizon. "Richie's been doing that for me."
LIAM answers simply.
[*Connor] Is there to be a service?
[Greg] So are you going to share?
Connor asks quietly. There was just no easy way to ask.
LIAM looks at Wyn to see if the young man should be bombarded with what little bit of information they had.
Delwyn looks at Liam and shakes her head very slightly, telling him not to get into it now.
Delwyn looks over at Gregor. "You need to rest."
[LIAM] We'll tell you what we know when you're feeling better.
Duncan nods.
LIAM points to Wyn and smiles, "doctor's orders."
[*Connor] And are you going to attend?
Delwyn shrugs. "Be upset with me, I'll just make your tea taste a hell of a lot worse than what it is now."
Connor asks still watching Duncan intently....his hand still on his shoulder.
Greg nods. "I don't think my brain could handle anymore information right now.
Greg looks at Wyn. "You're probably right."
Duncan 's voice is a hoarse whisper. "Yes, it will help to say goodbye."
LIAM sits back in his chair and shields his eyes from the light as he goes back to thinking. Within a few minutes he is resting his head on the wing of the back of the chair and has drifted off to sleep...his hand still covering his eyes.
Connor is rather surprised that Duncan has chosen to bury CJ since they both were firm believers in the Sioux traditions but he does not question it.
[*Connor] When?
Connor does ask though.
Delwyn reaches for Gregor's mug. "Why don't you lay down and try to sleep. The pain should be getting less."
Greg lies down. "It is, thank you. I want to help figure out what is going on."
Delwyn nods. "We all do."
Delwyn gets up from her chair and takes the mugs to the kitchen.
A soft snore escapes Liam's lips.
Delwyn walks back into the living room and bites her lips hearing the snore escape from Liam. She walks over and places a hand in his shoulder and gives it a gentle shake as she whispers, "Liam, wake up."
LIAM jumps and looks up at Wyn...blinking.
[LIAM] Huh? what? Not asleep. just thinking.
Delwyn smiles as she talks quietly "Right. Why don't you go to bed?"
[Delwyn] Thinking will be much more comfortable there.
[Duncan] Haven't set a date yet.
LIAM smiles up at her.
[LIAM] You think so?
[Delwyn] Yeah, I really think so.
LIAM gets to his feet and gives her a quick hug and kiss on her forehead and heads for the bedroom.
[*Connor] Here in Seacouver?
Delwyn watches Liam leave. She walks over to the book case and grabs a book. She dims the lights so Gregor can sleep. She then sits down in the spot Liam just vacated and begins to read.
LIAM undresses and climbs into the bed. He lays on his back staring at the ceiling for several minutes unable to turn off his mind then he finally drifts off into a restless sleep.
Duncan nods. "Yes and there will be a Sioux ceremony for her. Her ashes will be spread in the meadow."
Connor nods. He lets out a long sigh and squeezes Duncan's shoulder again.
[*Connor] I know you're hurting, Duncan. Give yourself permission to.
[*Connor] Just remember what you have learned about the Spirit. That it lives on in those who remember.
[*Connor] You will see her again. When the time is right.
Duncan nods. He talks quietly. "I try to keep telling myself that, but I miss her so much."
[*Connor] I know. I know.
Connor puts his hand behind Duncan's neck and pulls him to him so that Duncan's head is resting on his shoulder. For a brief second he remembers another time that he did the same thing....when Duncan had lost Little Deer and her son.
Duncan feels tears come to his eyes, but he doesn't fight them and lets them slide down his face.
Connor holds Duncan silently and stares out over the horizon.

It had been some time since she had heard from Duncan, Richie, Amanda, or any of the others. School had let out for a two week break and so She had plenty of spare time. Time well spent for the most part, after her last talk with Duncan she began ordering all sorts of electronic equipment and medical supplies. In just a few days she had the small basement set up like a kind of lab. A small part of that area partitioned and inside it a large plasma screen TV with several surround sound speakers, a small chair, and places on the wall to hang IV drips and other medical need. The purpose of this room? Very similar to Horton's lab where the brainwashing occurred. Here she could isolate and contain a single person and use a combination of drugs, technology and hypnosis to 'reprogram' or 'un program' in this case, someone who had been previously 'programmed.' Outside that small chamber like room was the rest of the basement whose' walls were lined with bookshelves, a computer desk covered with all sorts of technology, a floor to ceiling locked cabinet with all sorts of medications and drugs, and a sink. Here she would work for those two weeks, getting everything fine tuned and ready for the first 'test subject.' While this process would not harm the subject, she was not sure it would work either. Her gut told her Cara wasn't dead, and her findings from the lab work she had done only served to make her more sure of that fact. Duncan and his comrades at this point still had no idea she had set up this lab. But that was about to change.

KACEY walks into the bar and stands by the door, looking around for a few minutes. Seeing the bar is practically empty she heads for an empty bar stool and takes a seat.
JOE is at the far end of the bar when he notices Kacey come in and he quirks an eyebrow. He walks up to her when she sits down. [JOE] Let me see....don't tell me....tequila, lemon and salt. Right? D.Swift is driving to the bar, looking through the files his SEAL friends sent him. Good guys, helped him fake his death. He sighs as he glances down at a stop light. They haven't found that girl yet. She's elusive.[KACEY] You have a good memory. Yes. Thanks. JOE pours her drink and slides the salt shaker and a bowl of lemon wedges over to her. He pretends to wipe down the sink area near where she's sitting.[JOE] So...are you knew in town? Or just new to my bar? JOE asks noncommittally
D.Swift sets the files down underneath his seat and slides them. If anyone breaks into his Porsche, they'll have to look for him. He parks and walks towards the entrance to the bar. He opens the door, immediately feeling a buzz in his head.
KACEY doesn't like having to answer a bunch of ridiculous questions but realizes that this is the man's establishment and bar tenders are suppose to be friendly if not somewhat nosy She feels and Immortal buzz and sigh just as she's about to down her drink. She looks toward the door.
JOE sees the familiar "Another Immortal" look in Kacey's eyes and follows her stare to the door.[KACEY] Yeah. I'm new in town. KACEY answers Joe's question absentmindedly as she keeps her eyes on the door.
D.Swift steps inside, wearing a long gray trench coat. He looks to the bar, thinking "Spence can't find her, but I stumble onto her. Damn" he smiles and gives a wave to Dawson, heading over to the bar, "Hey Dawson. Slow night?"
JOE sees Dragon and waves with a friendly smile.[JOE] So far. What's your pleasure? [D.Swift] Scotch, neat. If it's not to much trouble." *he turns to the lady from the other night* Back again, I see. Is it the drinks or the homey atmosphere?" KACEY looks at Dragon and smirks, shaking her head slightly. She downs her shot of tequila and pushes the glass to the edge of the bar signifying she's ready for another one. She gives Dragon a sideways glance and smirks.[/i] [KACEY] Neither. I just fell in love with the entertainment and I don't mean what's on the stage. JOE gives Dragon a look that says, "5 points for her side." He refills her glass and pours Dragon's drink and slides it to him.[KACEY] Thank you. KACEY says to Joe and takes her drink. She downs the shot of tequila and sucks on a lemon wedge.
D.Swift shrugs and chuckles, "Yes, well...shit happens." he's just trying to feel her out. "It's not all the time you see so much fidgeting in one day. I'll give you that." he nods thanks to Joe
JOE stops wiping the sink down and leans a little closer to the bar.[JOE] So....have you seen or talked to Mac lately? JOE asks Dragon.
D.Swift shakes his head. Good ole Joe. At least he thinks good ole Joe Setting up to see if she's really as interested as they thought. "Last I saw him was the other night. He's been keeping to himself."
JOE shakes his head and lowers his eyes. He makes a clucking sound with his tongue.[JOE] I'm really worried about him this time. JOE says to dragon quietly.[JOE] You know the funeral is the day after tomorrow, don't you? D.Swift nods and sighs, "I heard. I'm worried too. But you got to remember who he is. He'll make it through this. He's got more friends than us both combined."[JOE] Yeah. It's just different this time. He really loved her. More than I've ever known him to love before. He's really taking it a lot harder than anyone expected. [JOE] Are you going to the funeral? D.Swift nods his head, "Yeah. I'll be there. Any friend of his is a friend of mine." he takes out a small note pad and starts writing something on it. "Speaking of friends Joe...could you give this to that girl Jean that comes in here sometime?" He gives emphasis on the name JEAN. He didn't know CJ at all, but he knows that was her name, and it should give Joe the message to read it. "I'd appreciate it." The note reads "Keep one of her glasses. DNA sample." he hands the note to Joe to read when he can. He turns to the girl, "So, I didn't catch your name."
KACEY listens to the conversation while pretending to read an article in the section of newspaper that was sitting on the bar next to her.
JOE takes the piece of paper and nods as he says, will do." He walks to the other end of the bar and with his back to them, opens the paper and reads it. he puts it in his pocket and turns back around. He looks at Dragon and nods one time.[KACEY] Is that because you are a lousy catch? Oh...wait. It's probably because i didn't throw it. KACEY smirks and pushes her glass to the edge of the bar. She goes back to "reading" her article.
D.Swift laughs heartily. "True, you didn't." he wipes the condensation from his drink off his hand and extends it to her, "Name's Swift. Dragon Swift. PI."
KACEY glances dubiously at the extended hand then looks at him. She takes his hand and gives it a firm shake.[KACEY] Kacey. Duggan. KACEY 's gaze is strong and steady.
D.Swift nods, "Nice to meet you, Kacey. And don't worry, here at Joe's, we don't bite." he grins, "Unless you want them to. I don't know about the help around here. They can be feisty." he locks with eyes with her. He keeps his gaze friendly, but unwavering.[KACEY] I take it you're what would be considered a regular D.Swift shrugs, "Lately. I've been in and out of town a lot over the years. But someone told me this place had good music. They were right. So here I am."[KACEY] Oh. Well...I thought maybe it was because you have no life. That's usually why people frequent places like this. KACEY says with another smirk. To Joe she says, "Is the kitchen open?"
D.Swift laughs, "Well, that depends how you define life. I have a pretty busy job usually. So work is life. And it's an interesting one."
JOE looks up as if he hadn't been listening and says, "absolutely. What can i get you?"
KACEY ignores Dragon for a second and tells Joe, "How about a Rueban Sandwich?"
JOE smiles and nods. "Anything with it?"[KACEY] Cole slaw and a beer. [JOE] Coming right up. JOE says and disappears to put in her order.
KACEY turns back to dragon and says, "Did i hear you right? You're a PI?"
D.Swift nods, "Most of the time. Not really a big business, I just enjoy doing it. Mostly some rich guy lost his wife in another country, that sort of thing. But the things these people are doing...you wouldn't believe it."[KACEY] You know what Freud would say about your chosen profession, don't you? KACEY says teasingly.
D.Swift laughs, "Well, it's only my current profession. And I'm sure Freud would have all sorts of interesting theories about my sexual drive and my mother regarding it. After all, they do call us private dicks. I'm sure he'd read into that too." he says with a chuckle.[KACEY] I believe he would say you are just a legalized voyeur. D.Swift laughs, "I guess he'd have a point there, wouldn't he? But it pays the bills.
JOE comes back with Kacey's order and sets it down in front of her then gets her a knife and fork. He gets her beer and sets it down too.[KACEY] Thanks. KACEY picks up her sandwich and takes a bite. She gives Joe a thumbs up.[KACEY] Now that's what a Rueban is suppose to taste like. My compliments. D.Swift smirks, "His cook is fantastic, classy restaurant caliber"[JOE] Well....thank you ma'am. I'll be sure and let Mike know. JOE smiles proudly.[JOE] You haven't tried his omelets yet. They are the best on the Western Seaboard. [KACEY] Looks like I'll have to come back some morning and find out. D.Swift looks to Joe, "I didn't know you guys were open early enough for breakfast. I might have to stop by on my way to work.
KACEY says and takes another bite. She turns her attention back to Dragon.[KACEY] So do you basically follow ex's around or what? D.Swift chuckles, "Sometimes, yeah. But usually it's international jobs. Their wife stole millions from them and ran off. The cops can't find their dicks with both hands, so they call me. Though I do run lots of operations, it's usually really rich people with thief problems, marital problems, or both
A delivery man comes in at the end of the bar with a clipboard and Joe goes down to talk to him and the two disappear into the store room.[KACEY] Sounds rather dull. KACEY says and takes a drink of her beer before starting in on her cole slaw.[KACEY] So have you lived in Seacouver long? D.Swift nods, "Those cases can be. Sometimes they're interesting when the significant other is trying to kill the person or something. The real interesting cases are industrial espionage ones." he stops, answering the question, "About 8 years. But I have been in and out of the country lots."[KACEY] Then maybe you can tell me...besides this place...what is there exciting to do around here? D.Swift shrugs, "There's the amusement park near the coast, if you like that sort of thing. There's usually something neat going on at the convention center. And they've got some pretty wild clubs out on the commercial strip. We've also got the Seacouver baseball team, if you like ball."
KACEY looks at him with interest.[KACEY] Really? Baseball? Are they sanctioned? A minor league or what? D.Swift nods, "Minor League. Triple AAA, I believe. There was some fiasco about them getting a Major League team, but that was way before I lived here. I know it's not much, but it is technically pro sports."
Claire scooted in quickly dressed in jeans, sneakers, a halter top and a denim jacket. To the bar she moved smiling brightly at Joe as she set her purse under the bar. not seeing Joe anywhere she glanced to see if anyone was in need of a drink*[KACEY] Are they any good? KACEY asks as she finishes her sandwich and pushes the empty plate away.
D.Swift shrugs, "They're no St. Louis Cardinals. But they're not bad. They do OK. Last year they won the first half, placed second in the second. Decent team to watch if you like watching prospects." Uh oh. She got him on baseball. Dragon LOVES baseball.
[KACEY] When does their season start?
KACEY asks completely interested.
D.Swift hmms, "They're in Spring training right now. So I'd say around April 4th or so. I think that's it. They run the same length as the MLB clubs. Some of their guys were on Canada's WBC team."
Claire seeing the strange woman again looked a little more somber but still smiled as she called over to them* Do either of you need a drink?
KACEY pushes her empty beer glass toward Claire and nods, keeping her attention on what Dragon is saying.
Claire retrieved the glass and took a look figuring out what the woman had, had to drink and got her a refill delivering it with a smile.*
D.Swift smiles as he finishes his drink, "Sure Claire. Can I have a scotch neat?" he turns back, "Yeah. They've got one kid that's going to make it big. John Jackson. He hit 380 with 40 HR's and 120 RBI's last year."
[KACEY] And that's at the Seacouver Stadium? I can just call them to get tickets? Or do they have a website?
Claire nodded, took his glass, got a new one and delivered his scotch, moving away immediately after to start wiping down the bar*
D.Swift nods his thanks to Claire, "Yeah. They got a website. www.seacouversealions.com or you can just call the stadium. They got good deals on box seats, not too much money. You'll love watching this kid if you like the game."
[KACEY] I don't do box seats. I like to be right down where the action is.
D.Swift nods, "I prefer right behind home plate myself. But I'll probably get season tickets late, if this kid ends up hitting like that again. I'm a big Cardinals fan, so I fly to St. Louis a lot"
[KACEY] I think I'm liking this city a little bit more, now. Thanks. I'm glad I ran into you today.
KACEY says genuinely.
Claire stopped for a moment after wiping down to remove her jacket and stick it under the bar with her purse. That halter top of her left her back bare but it covered her belly. Turning to wash a few glasses would allow a first glimpse at the large ornate tattoo that covered nearly her entire back. Large feather wings tattooed in dark grays and blue covered her from shoulder to waist, all so intricately done that it must have taken hours upon hours for the work to be done*
JOE comes back from the store room. He sees Claire and walks up to her.
Claire looked to Joe with a smile* Hi!
D.Swift nods and smiles, "I'm glad I could help. It's always nice to find another ball fan. Not many are. Such a great game to watch, even if you don't care about either team. So much skill...I'm sure we can appreciate that."
[JOE] Claire? We're going to get really busy tonight. I have another waitress coming in so I want you to take the bar and the tables upstairs. Okay? And stay on top of things. You're doing a real good job...you just need to get a little quicker.
[Claire] Alright Joe
Claire had the feeling that perhaps he did not want her here. Upstairs? she thought. something is going on*
[KACEY] Are you just a spectator? Or do you play?
D.Swift chuckles, "I never played pro, but I do play. I was on several teams." he doesn't mention where. But he was a big pitcher for the SEAL-West team during R&R, "I'm primarily a pitcher and a second baseman. I hit pretty well, but I'm sure not a power hitter."
[JOE] The reason I'm putting you upstairs tonight is that there's a party of 15 coming in and they specifically asked for the upstairs area. They are business men and real big tippers. i thought you could use the money.
Claire nodded as if it were no big deal* Alright Joe!
[JOE] And I mean REAL BIG tippers.
[JOE] And not an ass patter in the bunch.
Claire moved up the stairs and began setting everything up at a happy pace*
JOE smiles at Claire and winks.
[Claire] I can handle it Joe, I promise.
[JOE] I know you can. That's why I put you there. They need someone with class waiting on them. And that is definitely you.
[KACEY] Really? How fast is your fastest fast ball?
Claire offered a blushing smile.* Stop teasing me Joe, I'm nervous enough
JOE smiles. and says, "if you need me I'll be in my office trying to get some paper work done before the first wave gets here. He turns and heads for his office.
D.Swift hmmms, and thinks back to 87. The SEAL game. He's never pitched that fast before. Ever. It was a one time thing. But she said fastest. "98 MPH was what it was clocked at. I'm more of a cut fast ball guy though. That was a four seamer. I throw my cut at 91-92."
KACEY nods, impressed.
[KACEY] Not too shabby. Ever pitch a perfect game?
D.Swift smiles, "Don't be impressed. That was one game. That was my fastest. Ever. I usually throw around 95. And my arm hurts like a bitch after I throw around 30 fastballs." he shakes his head, "Never. I've thrown a no hitter. But that was in a fun game. No competition. Best competitively A 1 hitter, with 2 walks. I pitched all 9. And I was sore like a...
KACEY chuckles.
[KACEY] Hey...that's still pretty impressive.
D.Swift shrugs, "Thanks. I appreciate it. I just wish I could get power hitting down. I'm a line drive hitter. you know, 340 average, good OBP...but little HR's.
[KACEY] 340? Really? For an amature that's pretty damn good.
D.Swift chuckles, "In pro I'd probably hit 290. MLB? 270. I can only guess. I spent years mastering the line drive stroke. you know? The base hit stroke. And base running"
[KACEY] Who's your idol?
D.Swift smirks, "Bob Gibson and Hank Aaron. Real class right there. And both are fantastic players. Ty Cobb is up there too. But today? I really just bow down to Albert Pujols."
KACEY nods.
[KACEY] Do they have any open community leagues around Seacouver?
D.Swift nods, "They have several from what I know. I've been too busy, but I know they have co-ed leagues in the west part of town."
KACEY nods again with a look that says, "hmmmm. I'll look into it."
[KACEY] Who knows....maybe I'll run into you at a Sealion's game.
D.Swift smirks, "Probably. When I'm in town, I'll be at most of them. It's good to watch these kids turn into MLB players."
[KACEY] Baseball is good anytime. It is America's pass time although I think Americans have forgotten that fact.
KACEY snickers.

[KACEY] And there's nothing like the feeling when your bat hits that little ball so square and solid that it rattles your hands.
D.Swift shakes his head, "They didn't forget it. They just didn't get ready, and didn't send their absolute best. WBC needs to be during all star, not spring training. Made USA look stupid." he smirks, knowing that feeling, "There's few feelings like that Kacey. Very few."
KACEY nods her head vigorously.
[KACEY] Damn straight!
KACEY suddenly thinks of something and her head snaps up and she looks at Dragon.
[KACEY] Hey....does Seacouver have any batting cages?
D.Swift chuckles a bit, "Of course! What city is complete without them?! They've got some at the two golf courses, and a few at some mini golf places."
[KACEY] well...now i know where i can spend my free time instead of collecting dust in this bar.
KACEY smiles.
D.Swift shrugs, "They're better during the day. The lights at places like that isn't the best." he chuckles, "But I guess it's better than nothing. Let's check something." he grabs an empty beer bottle from the bar... He smirks, "Catch it." he drops the bottle towards the ground. Whether she catches it or not, "That's how much time you have to decide to swing or not at an MLB fast ball."
KACEY raises an eyebrow and watches him curiously She instinctively reaches down and grabs the bottle when it just inches from the ground. She sits back up and hands it to Dragon with as proud smirk.
[KACEY] You mean like that?
D.Swift smirks and takes the bottle, "Yeah...well....exactly like that. You used to play for a team?"
KACEY chuckles.
[KACEY] Used to wish i was a boy so i could play. I wanted to be just like Sandy Koufax when I grew up but I had three things that prevented that from happening.
D.Swift smiles, "Sandy Koufax, that was one damn good pitcher. And I never knew baseball was so gender biased. Football, yeah? But we had women on my team..." course, there are women SEALS. Just few of them.
[D.Swift] And what three things?
[KACEY] I wasn't a guy, I wasn't Jewish and I'm not left handed.
KACEY says with a smile.
[KACEY] So I play a mean first base instead.
D.Swift laughs, "Well, that is...literally the truth. First is a good position. The only problem with it is they don't ever look at your defensive accomplishments. They usually just expect you to be a hitting powerhouse. A shame, really."
[KACEY] How true. But that's alright. I like the position. I tried my hand at catching but after I got hit in the head with a bat that the runner flung behind him when he took off for first base...I said that's enough of that.
KACEY chuckles.
D.Swift laughs, "That actually happened? My god. That was a stupid hitter. You're supposed to drop the damn thing."
[KACEY] Oh he was thrown out but that didn't help the knot on my head.
D.Swift smirks a bit, thinking back to when that last happened when he was on a team. The guy had a concussion, "No, I imagine it didn't. Nowadays the helmets are so much better. But still, getting balls thrown at you and bats tossed at you isn't the ideal job."
KACEY laughs heartily. She isn't exactly sure why...but she feels more relaxed around this guy than she has in a very long time. And...in a way....that worries her. In her line of work....relaxing isn't ever an option.
D.Swift orders a beer from the bar, "I tell you, when that last happened...the guy had a concussion. He didn't just drop the bat, he damn near threw it at Domingo's head. I was surprised he wasn't ready to throw down with him. he just said it was part of the job. I said BULLSHIT."
[KACEY] It's actually against the rules. It's suppose to be an automatic strike out but they never really enforce it.
D.Swift nods, "I know. They never do. If it hits the catcher because he was on the move. That's the only time it's ok." he sighs, "But when did they enforce the rules? Last year a guy got to first on a dropped third strike AFTER the ump called him out. Rules mean little, it seems. Too bad."[/i]
[KACEY] It's all based on which team pays the ump the most money. At least that's always been my opinion.
D.Swift laughs, "At least I'm not the only one. Lately, and not just in baseball, it seems that there are "favorites" like they've been told to help out. It's too bad. I remember..." he speaks in a low voice, "Back in the 30's and 40's, when it was about who was the best."
[KACEY] Ahhh....there's the rub.
KACEY says, her Irish Brogue sneaking out.
D.Swift probes her to go on, "Oh?"
[KACEY] Back in the 30's and 40s....that's when baseball was its greatest. That's back when Hall of Famers were just that and deserved their induction. Like the Babe...Cobb...Gehrig... those guys. The Fathers of baseball.
D.Swift nods his agreement, "Yes it was. Just 20 years or so when they went to 7 instead of 9 games. I wish they were still at 9. That really showed who had the staying power..." he remembers the watcher file. He's keeping her talking He just wants to really feel her out now. "They really are." Best to play the game. I saw them play" he says really quietly, "And Cobb really was the master of spiking the shortstop. I never saw a double play breaker like that.
KACEY looks reminiscent as she sighs.."yep....those were the days. Everything was better then. More real. even the war was a real one. Not like the so called police actions they have now."
[KACEY] But don't get me started on that subject. It's one of my soap boxes and once I get up there...there's no getting down.
KACEY laughs.
D.Swift agrees sometimes with the police actions, he sometimes doesn't. The current one, he's not real keen on. "I know what you mean. Those were the days. Back when war was war. Ball was ball. Now war is "Political maneuvering" and ball is" A fad" It's sad."
KACEY glances up at the clock behind the bar and toys with the idea of calling it a night since she does need to do some late night survey lance
D.Swift smirks at that, "You on the clock or something? It is a Friday night. Let me buy you a drink...it's not often I meet someone that cares about ball like I do."
[KACEY] And aren't we the lucky ones. we get to see all the changes....good and bad...and right now...I'd vote that they are bad.
KACEY says sarcastically.
D.Swift nods.
Duncan pulls into a parking space outside Joe's. He feels the buzz as he gets out of his car and enters the bar.
[KACEY] Well.....alright. But just one. I'm driving. And it's really too much of a challenge to ride a hog when you're drunk.
KACEY laughs. She feels an Immortal buzz and her expression completely changes and becomes cautiously cold and hard as she looks at the door.
Duncan walks down the steps and into the main area of the bar. He walks over to the bar and takes a seat.
D.Swift smiles at Kacey, he's just friendly now. Joe got her cup for DNA, "Well Kacey, you're right. Government and baseball wise, it is bad., But at least the world is coming together now..." he looks up as he feels Mac approaching. He waves at him...careful to note Kacey's reaction.
Duncan smiles at Dragon as he takes a seat. He glances over to the woman at the bar.
KACEY sees who has entered the bar and she winces inside...careful not to show her true feelings. As much as she was animated and relaxed before she now resembles a Vulcan....cold...logical...emotionless.
D.Swift looks between the two of you, "All right..then." he notices the sudden change in Kacey. He hopes Joe kept that glass. "Duncan MacLeod, this is Kacey Duggan. She's as big a baseball fan as I am, if you can believe it."
Duncan 's gaze stays on the woman. He must be going crazy from grief, but this woman looked quite a bit like Cara, but the personality of his wife wasn't there. He starts a bit and looks at Dragon. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said."
KACEY nods her acknowledgment of the introduction.
D.Swift repeats himself, understanding it. He hates that Mac noticed it, but he was talking to her. How could he avoid it? "Mac, this is Kacey Duggan. She's a big fan of ball, like me. Kacey, this is Duncan."
[KACEY] You know, Dragon...I think I'm going to take a rain check on that drink. There is something i need to do before it gets too late. But I'll be around to take you up on it.
Duncan nods at the woman, still unsure of himself.
KACEY gets up and gathers up her jacket and she glances at Duncan and says simply..."Mr. MacLeod." She heads for the door making sure her gait is casual and unhurried.
D.Swift nods and smiles, "Sure thing, Kacey. Watch your ass out there." he hmms. Definitely uneasy around Mac. He really hopes Joe kept that glass like he asked. he wants to give Mac good news. "Hey Mac, how's it going?"
Duncan looks at Dragon, his voice soft, "Was it something I said?"
D.Swift shakes his head, "No..." keeping his voice low, "It wasn't at all. She's not real friendly. She only started talking to me when I mentioned baseball. Don't worry about it. It wasn't you." he hates being unable to tell Mac that he sees the resemblance too.
Duncan sits back in his chair staring in the direction Kacey went. "I must be going crazy, but she looked very much like my wife."
D.Swift shakes his head, "You aren't going crazy. It's normal, Mac. You remember Anna?" Mac might, it was Dragon's wife back when he was in Italy, "When she died, I saw her in any woman similar For years. It's normal buddy. Can I buy you a drink?" he's really uneasy lying to Mac.
Duncan looks at Dragon, still a bit out of sorts. "Yeah, I'll have whiskey on the rocks."
D.Swift nods and orders it. "Look buddy, I've been considering what you told me about the DNA. I've got some SEAL friends helping me look into it." at least that's not a lie, just the how is, "They helped me fake my death. They can be trusted. I'm here for ya, man."
[Duncan] Thanks
KACEY rounds the corner of the building. Once out of sight of the front door she leans against the wall and takes a deep breath. her heart is racing.
Duncan wants to go after the woman, but he isn't quite sure if he should. He's fallen into a trap like this before.
[KACEY] What the fuck is wrong with me? So he's drop dead gorgeous. That's no reason to fall apart like some feminine weakling.
KACEY says aloud to herself.
D.Swift sighs, "And don't worry about it. We're here man. What you need to do is remember you're alive. And there's lots of us wanting you to stay that way. I'd die for you man. you can't keep on like this buddy. No one who loved you would want you to. What you need...is vengeance." And if it kills me, you're gonna get it. I'm just not gonna ask questions. Because it's up to you to tell me. If you just want to hang out and have a good time, I'd rather do that. I can't imagine what this is like for you.
[Duncan] I have a babysitter where I'm staying, Dragon. I come here to get away from her.
Duncan gives him a smile.
[Duncan] Believe me, I know I have plenty of people who want me alive.
Duncan grabs the drink that was placed on the bar in front of him and takes a sip.
D.Swift laughs, "I'm sorry Mac, I didn't mean to come off that way. I'm sorry." he sighs, "I really didn't. It just pisses me off that there's so little I can do. You and Connor have done so much for me..."
Duncan nods. "I know." He takes another sip pf his drink.
D.Swift sighs, "I'm older than both of you combined, but you have both shown me what it means to live. Back in Italy. I was kind of lost. You fixed that. What I did in the great war was nothing to pay that back Mac. I owe you, man. You just point. I'm shooting."
KACEY finally gets control of herself and gets on her bike and drives a block away where she parks in the same alley she parked in her first night in town and climbs up on the same roof she did that night and takes up the same spot as she did then and watches the bar.
Duncan looks at Dragon. "I need to get back. My prison guard will be calling me soon on my cell. I'll talk to you soon." He gets up and leaves.
D.Swift laughs, "Later Mac."
KACEY watches MacLeod leave the bar and leaves the roof top and proceeds to follow him.
